Good morning Mets fans!

Baseball’s preeminent foes have found a temporary common ground. On Tuesday the New York Yankees acquired outfielder Alex Verdugo from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a trio of pitchers. The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Verdugo, 27, was the headline in Boston’s return for Mookie Betts prior to the 2020 season. Last season he hit .264 with an OPS of .745, with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs in 142 games.

In return, the Red Sox acquired three right-handed pitchers: Gregg Weissert (4.05 ERA in 20 innings in 2023), Richard Fitts, the Yankees No.12 prospect per MLB Pipeline and Nicholas Judice, a 2023 eighth-round draft pick.

Passan reported the deal does not remove the Yankees from their pursuit of San Diego Padres slugger Juan Soto.
