The off-season has only just begun, but the New York Mets are one of many teams looking to add multiple arms to their pitching staff early this winter. Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, and Mets are interested in former Chicago White Sox and right-handed starter Lucas Giolito. He led the league with 33 starts in 2023 while pitching to a 4.88 ERA in a career-high 184 1/3 innings.

Who Giolito signs with will depend on the market for Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, two of the most coveted free agents. The Mets have expressed plenty of interest in Yamamoto, but it remains unclear if they are one of his preferred destinations. Adding arms with experience has proven to be a priority for David Stearns and his staff, as they have already signed Luis Severino and are one of the two finalists to secure a deal with former first-round pick Erick Fedde.

Giolito was an All-Star in 2019, and while his numbers have taken a dip in recent years, the 29-year-old has remained healthy each and every season. The Mets need starters that they can depend on, guys that will be out there every fifth day. Giolito has proven that he can provide that, so it will be interesting to see if the organization continues to pursue the former top prospect in the Washington Nationals system.
