The Mets are preparing to sell ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline, but they reportedly do not intend to include significant amounts of cash to facilitate deals involving their expensive veterans, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
The Mets’ stance makes a Francisco Lindor or Bo Bichette trade significantly less likely. Lindor is owed $160 million over the five seasons following 2026 and has full no-trade protection, while Bichette is under contract for $42 million annually in 2027 and 2028, though he can opt out after either this season or next. For now, Cohen has publicly indicated that he does not expect Lindor to be traded during the season.

The Mets defeated the Brewers 4-0 on Tuesday behind another dominant outing from rookie left-hander Zac Thornton. Thornton tossed six scoreless innings and needed just 81 pitches to set Milwaukee down.

The Mets have promoted outfielder John Bay to Double-A Binghamton. The 25-year-old was hitting .232/.360/.458 in High-A Brooklyn before.

The Mets survived one of the craziest games in franchise history, defeating the Reds 6-3 in 14 innings at Riverfront Stadium. New York trailed 3-1 entering the ninth before rallying to tie the game. The contest turned chaotic in the 10th inning following a collision between Eric Davis and Ray Knight, which sparked a bench-clearing fight.
With Darryl Strawberry, Ray Knight, and Kevin Mitchell ejected, Davey Johnson improvised by moving Gary Carter to third base, putting Ed Hearn at catcher and placing Jesse Orosco in right field. Orosco and Roger McDowell alternated between pitching and playing the outfield depending on matchups.
The unusual strategy worked. Howard Johnson hit a three-run homer in the 14th, and Orosco closed out the victory, pitching three scoreless innings while also recording three putouts in right field.
The Mets improved to 62-27, maintaining the best record in baseball and a commanding lead in the National League East
