Another bad day for Mets baseball yesterday. The Mets made the decision yesterday to bump Steven Matz to Saturday due to a blister on his hand and had Jason Vargas pitch. On a scale of Vargas to deGrom, he wasn’t as bad as he has been at points this season, but also made some blistering decisions (like going after Goldschmidt in a 3-1 count high in the zone with a Vargas fastball) and although the Mets managed to score 3 runs, more than they usually do, they were playing an actual, professional baseball team, so that was not enough.

Game Notes

After not hitting a homer in his first 39 games this year, Rosario has four homers in his last 24 games. Rosario has hit four of his eight career home runs vs. Arizona. He also has six career RBI vs. the Dbacks, the most vs. any team.

The Mets have scored 13 runs in their last 95.0 innings. The Mets have scored three runs or fewer in 10 straight games. The last time New York had a longer such streak was in 1981 (August 23-September 2) when the club went 11 straight games scoring three or fewer runs.

Lugo has a 0.86 ERA (three earned runs/31.1 innings) since May 1 and has been scored upon in one of his 14 outings (two starts) in that span while allowing 17 hits and two walks with 34 strikeouts.

Let’s Go Mets!
