Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto have all been named finalists to start in the 2025 All-Star Game.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that Alonso was second in first base voting behind Freddie Freeman. Lindor led all shortstops in the National League. Soto ranked sixth among outfielders. These three players move on to Phrase 2 of voting, where the voting numbers reset.

The Mets earned a 4-0 victory over division rival Atlanta on Thursday night. Griffin Canning went down early with an injury after just 2 2/3 innings pitched. In a postgame interview, Carlos Mendoza said the team believes Canning suffered an Achilles injury. The team will wait for imaging to confirm.
After the injury, the bullpen was forced to step up in a major way to stay in the game, and they did. A combination of Austin Warren, Dedniel Nunez, Ryne Stanek and Edwin Diaz pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings to shut out the Braves.
With the victory, the Mets now have a half-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East. The Phillies just got swept in a three-game series by the Astros.
The Mets will start a three-game series against the Pirates on Friday night. David Peterson (5-3, 2.98 ERA) will face off against Mitch Keller (1-10, 4.02 ERA) at 6:40 p.m. ET.
Early Thursday afternoon, the Mets announced that RHP Jonathan Pintaro was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. In a corresponding move, the team recalled RHP Austin Warren.
Anthony DiComo reported that Sean Manaea was playing catch on Thursday for the first time since an MRI revealed a loose body in his elbow. Manaea is still on track to complete a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Our very own Michael Mayer reported that Mets prospect Elian Peña had a monster performance on Thursday. Peña went 4-for-5, 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBIs. The Mets gave him a team-record $5 million signing bonus earlier this year.
DiComo reported that Mark Vientos (hamstring) will return to the Mets’ active roster on Friday in Pittsburgh.
Right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell will join the Mets in Pittsburgh, per Will Sammon of The Athletic.

The Cubs announced that they have activated LHP Shota Imanaga from the 15-day IL. They DFA’d RHP Michael Fulmer in a corresponding move.
The Pirates announced that they signed LHP Genesis Cabrera to a one-year major league contract. They optioned RHP Michael Darrell-Hicks to Triple-A as a corresponding move. They also DFA’d RHP Hunter Stratton to make room on the 40-man roster.
Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor in the Dominican Republic for an illegal sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 21. Franco received a two-year prison sentence.
Passan later reported that Franco’s two-year prison sentence is suspended. If he fails to meet conditions set by the judge, primarily that he does not approach minors with sexual intentions, he will have to serve the sentence.
