Good morning, Mets fans!
Former Mets pitcher and current Ranger Jacob deGrom struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit and one walk over six innings on Thursday, achieving 2,000 career strikeouts in the second-fewest games and innings in Major League Baseball history as the Texas Rangers defeated the Washington Nationals 2-0.
To reach this milestone, deGrom struck out Washington’s first two batters, Daylen Lile and Abimelec Ortiz. His 10 strikeouts matched his season high. A two-time Cy Young Award winner, deGrom has now recorded 2,008 strikeouts in 1,666 1/3 innings across 272 career starts since making his big league debut in 2014. Hall of Famer Randy Johnson reached his 2,000th strikeout in his 262nd appearance, making it the fewest games needed, while Chris Sale holds the record for the fewest innings at 1,626.
Now on to the morning briefing!
