According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Philadelphia Phillies have internally discussed the possibility of trying to acquire Miami Marlins outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich.

Rosenthal, states that he heard the unbelievable concept from three different sources.

The Phillies are ready to spend with the contract of outfielder Odubel Herrera ($3.35M) as only player on the books for next year.

Stanton, 27, still has a possible 10-years and $295,000,000 million left on his massive contract which could make him tough to move despite his talents. His deal does include a player opt-out after the 2020 season.

The Phillies real interest seems to be in the other Marlins young outfielder in Yelich according to a source Rosenthal talked to. Yelich, 25, is slashing only .280/.359/.406 after a career year in 2016 when he posted a 5.3 bWAR.

Yelich has four years left on his deal after this season at a much more affordable $43,375,000 million with a $15 million option for 2022.

With the Marlins likely in fire sale mode soon as they look to bring in new owners, it will be interesting to see what pieces they will be willing to move and if they would trade a player the caliber of Yelich within the division.
