The Chicago Cubs have acquired left-handed starter Jose Quintana from the crosstown Chicago White Sox to help solidify their rotation.
The big piece going back to the White Sox is consensus top 10 prospect in baseball and top Cubs prospect in outfielder Eloy Jimenez. The Cubs will also send top pitching prospect Dylan Cease, first baseman Matt Rose and infielder Bryant Flete.
Quintana, 28, is having a down year with a 4.49 ERA, 4.01 FIP and 1.33 WHIP in 104.1 innings for the White Sox. Last season Quintana was an All-Star and finished 10th in the American League Cy Young voting.
Quintana can be controllable through 2020 with two affordable club options at $10.5 million for 2019 and 2020.
The Cubs get some much needed rotation help with Kyle Hendricks and John Lackey currently on the disabled list and both of them struggling this season.
In Baseball America’s mid-season prospect rankings they had Jimenez at No. 5 and Cease at No. 83.
