The Nationals are transitioning shortstop CJ Abrams to second base, per manager Blake Butera. Abrams will still play shortstop once or twice per week as he settles into second base. Abrams is in the middle of the best year of his career for the rival Nationals, owning an .899 OPS with 29 homers and a league-leading 91 RBIs.

The Mets (54-69) defeated the Nationals (60-64) 4-1 on Friday night. Francisco Lindor and Jared Young homered, while Kodai Senga locked down the save.

Legendary broadcaster Howie Rose will call his final game this season on Sept. 20. He is set to retire at the end of the year.

The Cardinals called up top outfield prospect Joshua Báez to the major league roster. Báez is the Cardinals’ No. 3 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 59 overall prospect.

The Blue Jays activated reliever Paul Sewald. Sewald had recently been designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, with whom he struggled mightily this year.

Major League Baseball announced that San Francisco will host the All-Star Game in 2028. The Cubs are set to host the event in 2027.

The Red Sox and Royals will play each other in the 2027 edition of the Field of Dreams game.
