I Hate To Be The Pessimist Here, But I Have Some Issues With The Whole Marcum Deal

Shaun Marcum

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York (who else), posted the full details of the deal the Mets signed with Shaun Marcum. The one-year deal guarantees him $4 million as well knew, but here’s the breakdown of the other $4 million he can earn with incentives: – $250,000 apiece for reaching 120, 140, 160 and 170 innings. – $375,000 apiece for reaching 180 and 190 innings. – $500,0000 for reaching 200 innings. – $375,000 apiece for [...]

Marcum Tosses Four No-Hit Innings, Could Be Activated During Next Homestand

Shaun Marcum

Shaun Marcum looks to be making steady progress. According to Adam Rubin, the veteran right-hander tossed four no-hit innings in an extended spring training game today. Marcum has been on the 15-day disabled list with biceps tendinitis, retroactive to March 22, but has been rehabbing and tossing from a mound over the past ten days. The Mets signed him to a guaranteed $4 million dollar deal in January, but he has been injured with one ailment or [...]

No-Han 2.0 and Why Sequels Always Suck

johan santana

It’s long been said that sequels are rarely ever as good as the original. It’s an undeniable truth. Of course there are exceptions like The Empire Strikes Back or The Godfather: Part Two, but for the most part sequels genuinely suck, to put it bluntly. No-Han was everything any Met fan could have ever hoped for last season and it surpassed all our expectations. And when it happened there wasn’t a dry eye in the [...]

Mets Could Have 60% Of Payroll On DL To Open 2013 Season

mr met ambulance hospital

With Opening Day less than two weeks away, the names of those who could open the season on the disabled list has more star power than the team we’ll see on the field come April 1 against the Padres. Closer Frank Francisco told the team he is still not feeling right after a 31-pitch side session on Saturday. He is still trying to recover from inflammation following off-season surgery to remove above spur form his right elbow. [...]

It’s Time for Parnell to Stand and Deliver

hulk angry

Bobby Parnell has been something of a wildcard for the Amazin’s each of the past few seasons. He has been bounced all around the pitching staff,  however in 2012 seems to have found himself a home in the late innings of New York Mets baseball games. The question remains however, which inning does the young fireballer belong? He hasn’t exactly found success as a closer, but has proven to be a very effective set-up man. [...]

Latest Reyes Trip To DL, May Have A Good Side Effect For The Mets

The New York Mets have once again had to place Jose Reyes on the disabled list as a result of a hamstring strain. However, this bit of bad news for the team, may have at least one positve side effect to it. This scenario could actually be helpful for the Mets when you take a deeper look. It has been rumored that Reyes could get Carl Crawford money when he becomes a free agent this off-season. However, this [...]

What Can the Mets Expect From Carlos Beltran This Year?

With just nine days left until Opening Day, Carlos Beltran has only appeared in one game as a DH and has had only three at-bats. At this point, it is getting very hard to believe that he will start the season anywhere other than the disabled list. Earlier this week there was news that Beltran participated in limited batting practice, but he rarely swung at any pitches. In addition, he participated in some outfield drills. [...]

I Hate To Bring This Up, But…..

This is one of those posts that may incite a riot, but I’ll knock wood, and cross my fingers and toes when I say what I have to say…..that the Mets have had no serious injuries yet this season to key players.  We won’t count Carlos Beltran, who had surgery back in January, or Jose Reyes, who began the year on the DL but joined the team shortly after.  And we certainly won’t count underachievers [...]

Is our bullpen going to be any good?

We all know the Mets added a power bat in Jason Bay, are still dealing with injuries/medical issues to key players like Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran, and have huge holes in the starting rotation.  But I haven’t heard as much talk about the bullpen.  A year ago, almost to the day, I wrote a blog on this site about how the Mets’ revamped bullpen, a terrible weakness in 2008, would pile up K’s and [...]
