Heilman Being Heilman
As the Mets venture South to Philly this weekend following a less-than-stellar beginning to their season, I thought it might brighten some peoples’ day by pointing out what occurred last night in Chicago. The Cubs and Marlins were locked in a 2-2 tie going into the 10th. In walks Aaron Heilman. Heilman did not record an out, and gave up three hits, two walks and six runs. Flashbacks anyone? Up until last night, Heilman was [...]

5/1 Minor League Report! FERNANDO, NIESE, HAVENS, RAMIREZ!
Buffalol 3, Louisville 4 in 7 innings *in that scary announcer dudes voice* Just when you thought it was going to end differently, it’s CARLOSSSSS MUNIZZZ! OH NO!!!!! LOL. Jon Niese has his first outstanding effort of the season, a 6 inning 3 hit gem, Carlos Muniz comes in and blows the save, giving up 3 in the 7th, sending Buffalo to their 400th loss of the season. The Bisons pounded out 10 hits and [...]

The Comeback Kids
Have any of you read Jack Curry’s piece in today’s Times about the Sillies? Well penned analysis about our enemy’s well developed tendencies to bounce back in the late innings. Had you heard about this Philly proclivity? Our Mets decidedly don’t comeback as Curry painfully indicates given how we have lost games for a while now. Ah, to have our mid-80s Metsies around! Anyway, check out the piece if you have time. One thing that [...]

Should Dan Warthen Be Worried About His Job Security?
How much blame does pitching coach Dan Warthen warrant for the lack of early season success from the 2-5 pitchers? A lot? A little? None? If the Mets are going to win this thing, it’s going to take a lot more than Johan Santana and good bullpen. The inability for our starters to pitch deep into games may have already begun the bullpen erosion that we saw last season, only back then it didn’t start [...]

The Idiot’s Guide To Citi Field
(Author’s note: This is just one man’s unbiased, impartial view of Citi Field. In no way am I implying that I am speaking for all Mets fans. Just my thoughts) After surviving a brutally cold winter in the northeast, last Sunday was one of those beautiful spring days that made it all worth it. Upon waking up, I decided that rather than doing the original productive things I had planned, namely sitting around and watching [...]

Injury Update: Brian Schneider Setback
The NY Post is reporting that Brian Schneider is still being hampered by a sore right calf and may not be activated from the DL as expected on Sunday. Omir Santos and Ramon Castro are getting a reprieve this weekend when it comes to worrying about their roster spots after regular catcher Brian SchneiderBrian Schneider (pictured) developed a sore right calf this week.Schneider was eligible to come off the 15-day DL on Sunday in Philadelphia, [...]

Jerry Manuel: The Honeymoon Is Over
I’ve spent a great deal of time considering Jerry Manuel’s decision to pinch hit Omir Santos for Ramon Castro during yesterday’s loss to the Marlins. I’ve also read a great many opinions on the matter and for the most part they all came to the same conclusion that Manuel made a big gaffe. I also believe that it was a terrible error in judgment by Manuel who was trying to be too cute and over-managed [...]

4/30 Minor League Report! GARCIA
Binghamton 8, Portland 3 Emmanuel Garcia broke out of a 6 for 37 slump in a huge way, going 3 for 4 with 3 runs, leading the Mets to a convincing 8-3 win over the Sea Dogs today. Josh Thole, Shawn Bowman and Mark Kiger also had multi hit games for the Mets, while Ruben Tejada (0 for 3, BB, 2 Ks, .222), Lucas Duda (0 for 4, K, .292), and Carl Loadenthal (0 for [...]

Change, Change, Change
Well it seems as if the front office is all about giving players their shot and if they fail they are gone. Casey Fossum was designated for assignment this past Sunday after a short stint with the Big Leagues. Freddy Garcia never even made it to a big league game before being cut either. I have to say it looks like this season will bring a lot of new faces to the Mets team the [...]

Not So Random Thoughts – 3 Year Decline
As far as the Mets are concerned April is now over and they find themselves in 4th place with a 9-12 record, closer to last place than first. Not exactly the beginning we all envisioned after overhauling our bullpen and adding a few role players to our bench. In 2008 the Mets found themselves at 14-12, 15-9 in 2007, and they finished the month with a 16-8 record in 2006. Notice any trends? The last time the [...]
