4/28 Minor League Report! THOLE, DUDA, NIEUWENHUIS!
Binghamton 8, Portland 9 As one of my friends is fond of saying, it is better to fail spectacularly then succeed blandly (paraphrased). In that vein, I present to you Roy Merritt’s first blown save, a spectactular 3 run bottom of the 9th. OK, all kidding aside, it was an ugly night for the pitchers, starting with Dylan Owen giving up 4 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) and 3 walks over 5.2 innings. [...]

Did That Look Like A Fixed Bullpen To You?
We had a 3-0 lead, and, according to the records, we’ve now lost for the third time this season when having a lead of three runs or more. It seemed as if the Mets felt bad for the Marlins because they had lost seven straight, so the Mets decided to be gracious hosts. Whaddya say we DFA Sean Green! As others have opined, he’s kind of Heilman and Schoeneweis rolled into one, and tonight he [...]

Mets Notes: Delgado, Castillo, Santos, Murphy
Carlos Delgado is out of the starting lineup tonight and most likely for the remainder of this series because of right hip soreness. Jerry Manuel expects Delgado to return on return Friday when the Mets go to Philadelphia for a three game series against the Phillies. Delgado had been mire in a terrible slump in the last ten games. Luis Castillo will also be out of the lineup tonight because of back spasms. He will be [...]

Filip Bondy Has It All Wrong
“If I were a baseball manager, I would tell my guys batting third, fourth, fifth and sixth never to slide. Sure, there would be some embarrassing Jeremy Giambi/Carlos Beltran moments, and maybe a few runs would be lost along the way. But in the end, there would be a lot less injuries to my stars.” The musing by the Daily News’ Filip Bondy appeared in his “The Daily Blahg.” First of all, thank goodness he [...]

Mets Release Freddy Garcia
After a terrible spring and a couple of dismal starts at AAA-Buffalo, the Mets have cut their losses and released starting pitcher Freddy Garcia. Garcia was initially viewed as the favorite to win the fifth starter’s job in spring training, after signing a one year minor league deal with the Mets. However, Garcia never regained the velocity or control that once made him a top starting pitcher in the American league. Officially, he ends his [...]

Is It Time To Shea Goodbye To Omar?
After last weeks four game losing streak I started to observe our own chat room as well as other Met chat rooms and MLB blogs and some are blaming Omar Minaya for the Mets miserable start this year. He didn’t sign the big free agents that were available this past off-season. Last year he signed Luis Castillo to a 4 year contract worth $25 million. This past off-season Omar went out and signed Fransisco “Please [...]

Freddy Garcia To Retire?
According to a recent post by Adam Rubin of the Daily News, starting pitcher Freddy Garcia is seriously contemplating retirement after another poor start at AAA Buffalo. On Monday night, Garcia served up a grand slam to Ryan Langerhans in a six-run fifth inning after which he was pulled. Garcia was charged with seven runs and has an 8.18 ERA since joining the Bisons. Garcia told the Buffalo News that he is contemplating pulling the [...]

4/27 Minor League Report!
Buffalo 1, Syracuse 7 Freddy Garcia’s turn tonight. Boy this is getting ugly, as ugly as the St. Lucie Mets last April (remember they lost 500 in a row?). The Bisons, in addition to getting a miserable outing from Garcia (who is now contemplating retirement), had just 2 hits, a homer from Cory Sullivan (1 for 4, run, HR, RBI, .231) leading off the game, and a single from Jose Coronado (1 for 3, BB, [...]

Game Recap: Mets 7 – Marlins 1
Game Summary The Mets (9-10) two hit the Florida Marlins (11-8) and beat them 7-1. John Maine started and was spectacular, but it was Omir Santos who got the crowd going with a first inning grand slam that put the Mets in front for good. Mets Pitching John Maine had his best start of the season tonight and looked very sharp at times. In six innings pitched he allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out four batters. The only [...]
