Mets Should DFA Redding and Promote Jon Niese
For the life of me, I just can’t ever figure this team out sometimes. Here we are hanging on the edge of a cliff and praying that we don’t fall into complete obscurity, and yet with help just a phone call away, the Mets refuse to dial 911. During the All Star break, I blogged about Jon Niese and wrongly predicted that he would start the second half of the season in the rotation… Nobody’s perfect. On [...]

It’s Time To Show Omar The Door
To sell, or not to sell. That is the question. However, the answer is not as easy as you might think. If the Mets become sellers, then Omar Minaya will be rubber stamping this season which was engineered by him, as a failure. If the Mets become buyers, and they still don’t make it, then the fans will be rubber stamping Omar Minaya as a failure. What a choice huh? Newsday’s David Lennon is doing [...]

Mets Are Becoming The Butt Of ESPN’s Jokes
Has anyone been watching SportsCenter recently? I happened to be watching this morning and noticed another Not Top 10 list. Immediately, I remembered the recent Not Top 10 where they focused on the Mets. Apparently, the Mets’ follies had become fodder for jokes in Bristol. The SportsCenter crew couldn’t contain themselves as they were running the ten worst plays so far this season, culminating in Luis Castillo’s dropped popup against the Yankees. For some reason, [...]

Mets Chop Braves 5-1 Behind Santana’s Smooth Effort
The fact that Johan Santana won a game after the All-Star Break was nothing new. After all, he’s now 59-17 in his career after the All-Star Break and 9-0 with the Mets. The only thing new about it was the team he defeated. Santana pitched seven shutout innings and his teammates provided him with all the runs he needed in the sixth inning as the Mets defeated the Braves 5-1. It marked the first career [...]

7/18 Minor League Report! NIESE, Holt, Beaulac, HONECK, HARRIS, LUCAS
Buffalo 1, Toledo 0 Jon Niese is a straight up PIMP. He fired another complete game shutout (OK, so this one was of the 7 inning variety), allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks, and lowering his season’s ERA underneath 4. Over his last 8 starts, Niese has gone 5-1, with a 0.96 era. Spanning 56.1 innings, Niese has allowed just 40 hits, with 12 walks and 46 strikeouts. 2b Argenis Reyes 0 for 3, [...]

Mets Literally Add Insult To Injury
For the first time in six years, the Mets began the second half of the season with a loss, falling a season-low 7 1/2 games behind the division leading Phillies. As if that wasn’t enough, last night the Mets were handed their second straight loss after the break, their eighth shutout of the season, and their fourth shutout in the last nine games. Oh, did I mention that they broke their own season-low record from just [...]

Mets Shutout Again, Fall To Braves 11-0
The Mets went down to the Georgia and I guess the devil must have went down with them because that’s how gloomy things have been only two games into their second half of the season. Mike Pelfrey and the Mets handed the Braves an 11-0 win and in the process they fell to 8 1/2 games back of the first place Phillies who look like world beaters. Pelfrey was god awful tonight nd it has [...]

Snake Eyes! Gary Sheffield Pulls Up Lame
The Mets may have just lost Gary Sheffield to the disabled list after he pulled up lame trying to chase down a Yunel Escobar double. Sheffield caught up with the ball, flipped it to Angel Pagan, and grabbed his right leg in pain. After a long injury delay, he was escorted off the field by the trainer and replaced by Jeremy Reed. The Mets will most likely be without Sheffield for a significant amount of [...]

Does Omar’s Message Still Ring True?
As the second half of the season commenced last night, with a loss to a familiar foe (curses Chipper), it’s time for Mets fans to slam the door on the resident traveling salesman, Omar Minaya. (When he rings the bell close the blinds) Because whatever he’s selling; vacuum cleaners, encyclopedias, and most importantly-HOPE, you should not be buying (or listening). For weeks leading up to the All-Star break the mantra was, “Get to the Break,” [...]
