Even Wilmer Flores Knows He Belongs At 3B, Not SS
I couldn’t help reading some comments Mets shortstop prospect Wilmer Flores made this weekend during an interview with a local beat writer who covers the St. Lucie Mets. Most Mets fans must have heard at one time or another that scouts, analysts and baseball people are pretty much in agreement that Wilmer Flore will not remain at shortstop, and most likely will be shifted to third base or left field. In fact, Baseball America projects Wilmer [...]

Minor League Report: Familia with B-Mets, New Bisons Additions, Other Notables
Last week, my colleague Craig Lerner reported that the Mets promoted Jeruys Familia to Double-A Binghamton, as he was pitching really well in Port St Lucie for the St. Lucie Mets. During his stint in St. Lucie, Familia was 1-1, with a 1.49 ERA, 36 K’s, and 8 walks. Now that Familia was called up to Binghamton, its time to see how Familia will hold up. As I’ve said about Matt Harvey, when he (I’m now [...]

The Cory Vaughn Story
Cory Vaughn is rated as the the Mets 7th overall prospect in the farm system. He is the son of former big league slugger Greg Vaughn, and has followed in his fathers footsteps on the fast track to the major leagues. The 22 year old outfielder was the Mets 4th round pick out of San Diego State in the 2010 draft, 122nd overall. Cory Vaughn has good size at 6’3, and this kid has all [...]

DePo Likes What He Sees From Nieuwenhuis
Adam Rubin posted some comments about Mets prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis made by Vice President of Player Development, Paul DePodesta “Obviously he’s having a great year,” DePodesta said. “There’s no real story there. The thing that is interesting to me about it is that he’s one of the rare guys that as he moves up levels, he continues to get better. His performance gets better at each level. That’s generally rare. But he’s a guy out [...]

Mets Minor League Update: Harvey Continues Success Into May, Other Notables
As spring training officially was under way, Matt Harvey came into Port St Lucie as the Mets newest pitching prospect. No one really knew who this guy was when he was drafted. The only thing anyone really knew about Harvey, was that he was chosen by the Mets as the 7th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. Coming into his first professional season, expectations for him have been set very high. As May comes around, Matt [...]

Jeurys Familia Promoted To Binghamton
After Saturday’s game and during the post game show on SNY, the Mets announced that RHP Jeurys Familia has been promoted from High-A St. Lucie up to Double-A Binghamton. Familia was off to a great start at St. Lucie and had a 1-1 record with a 1.49 ERA in six starts. He racked up 36 strikeouts against eight walks in 36 innings pitched. The 21-year old right-hander was a surprising choice, but deserving nonetheless. His teammate and Mets 2010 draft pick Matt Harvey [...]

Matt Harvey Fans Nine In Another Gem
After getting off to a blistering hot start to his professional career and not allowing an earned run in his first 22 innings pitched, Mets pitching prospect Matt Harvey hit a bump on the road last week and was charged with six runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out three in 4 1/3 innings. On Wednesday night, Harvey took the mound again and delivered a spectacular effort tossing 6 1/3 scoreless [...]

Brad Holt’s Long Winding Road Through The Mets Farm System
As the Legend of Matt Harvey and his 22 inning scoreless streak continues to grow, another former first round pick at Double-A Binghamton named Brad Holt has gotten off to an impressive start this season. Holt looks to prove that his struggles are behind him, and knows his key to success is regaining command of the strike zone. Brad Holt was the Mets first round pick in back in 2008, 33rd overall. He burst onto the scene with the Brooklyn [...]

Matt Harvey Is Dominating in St. Lucie
Last season, the Mets went into the MLB Draft with the 7th pick overall. I’ll admit, that having such a high pick does increase the chances of getting a good to great prospect, and so far things couldn’t be better for RHP Matt Harvey. When the Mets selected Harvey, questions arose about how he will translate his success as an amateur to the major-league level. Now that Harvey has had some time to get his feet wet as a [...]

Last night, left-hander Mark Cohoon recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and allowed two unearned runs on five hits over seven innings as the Binghamton Mets defeated the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-2. “I had good control tonight,” Cohoon said. “I was able to command my fastball in to hitters and keep them honest at the plate. I was able to throw everything else on the other side of the plate. Cohoon, 23, currently has a 0.47 ERA [...]
