The Three Ulti-Mets

Baseball Tonight is currently running a special feature. For the month of August the cast of the show is selecting the three best players for each of the 30 Franchises. Fans can also cast their vote at ESPN.com. On Wednesday, August 20th, it will be the Mets turn and so I decided to write this week about my choices. I don’t expect everyone to my agree with me. These are just one fans’ choices. I [...]

Johan Santana Pitches A Shutout, Mets Win 4-0

Oh yeah… Here come the Mets! Johan Santana pitched a three-hit shutout as the Mets beat the Pirates 4-0 on Sunday.  It was the fifth career shutout of Santana’s career, and it extended the Mets winning streak to six straight games, and 10 of their last 13. Santana started the game by retiring the first ten hitters and completely dominated the Pirates all day. He improved his record to 11-7. It’s interesting to note that the last time Santana pitched a [...]

On The Campaign Trail With Jose Reyes

This upcoming November, we all will be electing a new President to lead this country. However, a far more important election this fall will be who is named Most Valuable Player of not only the National League, but also Mets Nation.   Jose Reyes quietly has been putting up MVP-like numbers all season long, all the while with a big smile on his face. Reyes leads the league in at-bats (524), triples (13), and multi-hit games. [...]

Mets Win But Learn Billy Wagner’s Elbow Is Still Hurting

The Mets easily beat the Pirates today by a score of 7-4 on the strength of another solid performance by Pedro Martinez. It was the fifth straight win for the Mets and the game featured homeruns from shortstop Jose Reyes, and catcher Ramon Castro. However, the jubilation was short-lived when the Mets learned that closer Billy Wagner who was expected to return from the disabled list on Monday, was still complaining about pain. What started [...]

Minor League Players of the Week – Wilmer Flores (SS) and Brad Holt (SP)

This feature is supposed to be just a single player, but I decided to have two players this week since they have been performing extremely well: Wilmer Flores of Kingsport and Bradley Holt of Brooklyn. I don’t know how much this will continue, but man Wilmer Flores has been extremely consistent offensively for the Kingsport Mets. If you haven’t heard about this kid already, you should. I say kid, well, because he just turned 17 [...]

Hot or Not: 1st Place Edition!

Happy Saturday Mets fans and welcome to another installment of Hot or Not. This week, we watched our boys climb back into sole possession of first place by completing a sweep of the Washington Nationals. We saw Mike Pelfrey dominate the Washington Nationals. I am so proud of our Mets, therefore, none of them will be featured in my “Not” section. This week, I’ve done something a little different and I hope you’ll enjoy it! [...]

What A View From the Top!

After doing what was expected necessary, our New York Metropolitans find themselves sitting atop the NL East. Clutch hitting, a stellar rotation, and a bullpen that saves games (for a change) all played pivotal roles this week. It also helped that Manny was being Manny in L.A. instead of Boston. And I would also like to take the time to thank Nomar Garciaparra for hitting that walk-off home run the other day. This morning, after [...]
