Noah Syndergaard could not have pitched much better than he had in Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Washington Nationals. The Mets wasted an opportunity as Thor continued his dominance over the opposition for the third consecutive start.

Syndergaard went seven innings while allowing two runs on just three hits. He walked one while striking out four. The Nationals though again capitalized on his weakness of holding runners on by stealing four bases.

“Tonight was kind of hit or miss,” Syndergaard said. “I was a little bit out of my delivery the first three innings or so.” (NY Post)

Over his last four starts, Syndergaard is 3-1 with a 1.63 ERA (five earned runs/27.2 innings). He did take the loss last night, dropping his record to 12-8 on the season. His ERA stands at 2.56 with a WHIP of 1.11.  Manager, Terry Collins is quite please by how his ace has performed as of late.

“[Syndergaard] is back on track, really throwing the ball well,” Collins said. “He is using his changeup very efficiently and against a very good lineup he kept us right where we needed to be. He didn’t get much support, but he pitched well.”

It of course was not all doom and gloom for the Mets last night as they did not lose any ground in the Wild Card standings. The Giants, Cardinals, Pirates and Marlins all lost their respective games last night, keeping the Mets just two games back of that second Wild Card spot.
