The St. Lucie Mets beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 9-2 tonight to clinch the second half division title and a playoff spot. The Mets came into Friday night with three games left in the season and all of them against Jupiter, needing to win just one to claim a playoff spot.

It’s the St. Lucie Mets first playoff berth since 2012, they will host the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday for Game 1 of the best-of-three opening round series.

Third baseman David Thompson led the offense by going 3 for 5 with two home runs and three runs knocked in. He now has 11 homers and 95 runs batted in between St. Lucie and the Columbia Fireflies this season.

John Mora also homered in a three-hit night while knocking in and scoring two runs, he finished a double short of the cycle. Kevin Kaczmarski and Jhoan Urena each had two hits in the game as well.

Catcher Tomas Nido went 1 for 5 on the night but now has enough plate appearances to qualify for the Florida State League batting title and his .308 average is on top currently.

On the mound, the star was P.J. Conlon who went five scoreless innings allowing only one hit, three walks and struck out seven. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 18.2 innings and lowered his St. Lucie ERA to 1.41. Between St. Lucie and Columbia this year Conlon is 12-2 with 1 1.65 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and has held opponents to a .220 average.  Box Score
