Ramon Castro continues to make the most out of his opportunities.
Whenever he is in the lineup, it changes the whole offensive dynamic of the team. Last night he built a strong case for additional playtime when he blasted a three-run homerun over the right-centerfield fence that put the Mets up 3-0 and made Johan Santana a winner. But despite another lefthander on the mound this afternoon (1 PM start) for the Giants, he will be sitting this one out.
After the game, Jerry Manuel talked about why he went with Ramon Castro
“The fact that it was a left-hander that had some decent velocity. Castro has played enough to where we feel pretty good about him catching, we feel pretty good about his bat and we try to get him enough consistent reps to where he can produce, and he’s done it.”
Ramon Castro is currently batting .270 in 23 games with 3 homeruns, 14 RBI and a .470 Slugging Percentage. He also has caught quite a few gems in a majority of his starts and his pitcher love him. He has no passed balls this season and has the same caught stealing ratio as Brian Schneider.
