Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports that the San Diego Padres are not showing much interest in using Luis Urias in any deals at the MLB Trade Deadline, including if that deal involves the team acquiring Noah Syndergaard.

Urias, 22, is the 20th best prospect in all of baseball at the moment according to MLB Pipeline and the Padres’ second best.

The middle infielder was hitting .315/.398/.600 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI in Triple-A which prompted the team to promote him earlier this week.

In 17 games at the MLB level this season, Urias is hitting a lowly .068/.226/.091 with one double, no homers, and no RBI.

Syndergaard, 26, is 7-5 with a 4.33 ERA, 3.64 FIP, and 1.263 WHIP to go along with 9.0 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 this season. The right-hander won’t be a free agent until after the 2021 season.

With regards to a possible deal between the Mets and Padres, it’s hard to see how the latter would create a compelling offer to acquire the right-hander if neither Urias nor their number one prospect, LHP Mackenzie Gore, is included as the frontline of the package.

According to Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com, there is still skepticism around the league that the Mets will even end up dealing Syndergaard and/or closer Edwin Diaz. The likeliest arm to be dealt is still Zack Wheeler at the moment.

Obviously, things could change rapidly before the MLB Trade Deadline, but the chances of these two teams making a blockbuster deal look slimmer with these reports.
