As was previously reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets are exploring a possible trade scenario in which they would trade Noah Syndergaard and use some of the return to acquire Marcus Stroman.

However, Jeff Passan of ESPN has noted that Stroman is not the only starting pitcher that the Mets may go after in this proposed scenario. They could also use some of the return for Syndergaard to acquire a pitcher with similar control as Stroman, such as Mike Minor of the Rangers or Robbie Ray of the Diamondbacks.

Stroman, Minor, and Ray are all set to be free agents in the 2021 offseason. Stroman, 28, is similar in age to Ray, 27, while Minor is a bit older at 31 and most likely the weakest of the three options.

Regardless, the Mets have some alternate options that could make this deal happen if the Stroman aspect ends up not working out.

Minor is having arguably the best season of his career, with a 3.00 ERA and 9.07 K/9 in 21 starts, while Ray has posted a 3.52 ERA and 12.0 K/9 since the start of the 2017 season.
