Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won their second straight Super Bowl, and now baseball season is upon us! The Mets’ pitchers and catchers report to Port St. Lucie today. Much of the roster has already reported to camp. The team’s full-squad workouts will open to the public on Tuesday.

The Mets have outrighted righty Austin Adams to Triple-A Syracuse after he cleared waivers. The Mets signed Adams earlier in the offseason but designated him for assignment when they signed Jake Diekman. Adams will now attend spring training as a non-roster invitee.

The Marlins have acquired outfielder Nick Gordon from the Twins in exchange for lefty Steven Okert. A former first-round pick, Gordon had just 93 plate appearances in the majors in 2023, posting a .503 OPS. Okert posted a 4.45 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings for Miami.

The Pirates have agreed to a contract with veteran catcher Yasmani Grandal. A two-time All-Star, Grandal has struggled over the last two years, and he hit just .234/.309/.339 with eight homers in 405 plate appearances.

2016: Former Mets closer Jenrry Mejia is permanently banned from baseball after failing his third drug test. Mejia served an 80-game suspension for testing positive for stanozolol at the beginning of the 2015 season, then got handed a 162-game ban for a second failed test in July. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in 2018.
