According to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, veteran third baseman Todd Frazier has signed a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers, pending a physical.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirmed the 33-year-old will earn $5 million in 2020 with a club option for 2021.

Frazier, a native of Toms River, New Jersey, slashed .251/.329/.443 over 133 games (499 plate appearances) with -1 outs above average (Statcast) at third base for the New York Mets in 2019.

Grant reports the Rangers were looking to bolster their right-handed hitting arsenal with the Frazier signing, noting that Texas has also “been talking to” free-agent outfielder Nicholas Castellanos.

Frazier could be tabbed to play third or, as Grant suggests, could see some time at first base if the team’s reported interest in Rockies’ trade chip Nolan Arenado comes to fruition.
