The Mets defeated the Nationals by a score of 5-2 in a thrilling game tonight at Citi Field. New York completed the sweep of their division rivals and now move into a first place tie in the NL East.

Offense:

Down 1-0 in the third inning, the Mets offense exploded for five runs against Jordan Zimmermann.

Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy blasted back to back home runs, then Lucas Duda crushed a two run bomb of his own to give the Mets a stunning 5-1 lead.

The lineup did not score again for the rest of the game, but that was all the production they needed with Noah Syndergaard dominating on the mound.

Pitching:

Syndergaard was in complete control of the game and he was absolutely brilliant tonight. He allowed only two runs while striking out nine and walking none. Both runs came on solo homers by Anthony Rendon and Yunel Escobar.

It was another outstanding start for the Mets rookie, who improves to 6-5 and now has a 2.66 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 94.2 innings.

Newly acquired Met, Tyler Clippard, slammed the door in the 9th inning to pick up his first save as a Met.

On Deck:

Bartolo Colon will start tomorrow against the Miami Marlins who will counter with Tom Koehler. The game will start at 7:10 and will be televised on SNY.
