Good morning, Mets fans!
Wednesday was elimination day, with three teams going home after just two playoff games.
The Yankees destroyed the Red Sox for the second straight game, 9-2, to end Boston’s season. Cody Bellinger’s three-run homer broke the game wide open.
The White Sox, with some divine intervention from the Pope, beat the Astros 7-3 for their first playoff series win since their World Series run in 2005. Former Met Anthony Kay got the win in relief, while Huascar Brazobán pitched one-third of an inning for the Chicago, giving up a hit with one strikeout.
In the late-night game, the Padres beat the Cubs 4-1 behind 5 2/3 scoreless innings from the bullpen and a two-run homer by Xander Bogaerts. David Peterson pitched 1 2/3 scoreless for the Cubs in the loss.
The Phillies evened up their series with the Braves with a 4-3 extra inning comeback win, capped by Alec Bohm’s 10th-inning homer. Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back homers in the eighth to tie the game. Former Met Dominic Smith struck out looking with two runners on to end the game.
The lone game Thursday will be the decisive Game 3 between the Phillies and Braves at 8 p.m. ET.
