The Mets have had discussions about promoting Matt den Dekker, Terry Collins told reporters Saturday.
“There’s been a lot of talk about bringing him back,” Collins. “When? I don’t know, but hopefully he’s going to get a chance to be in there every day,”
den Dekker has been tearing up the Pacific Coast League since his June 18 demotion. The 26-year-old is batting .417 with seven doubles and seven walks in his last 10 games with the Las Vegas 51s.
Collins said the major concern has been den Dekker’s struggle with consistent contact.
“The strikeout has been a big hold-back as far as how much playing time he’s going to get here,” Collins said.
In 45 at-bats with the Mets this season, den Dekker has struck out 13 times.
