Jason Beck of MLB.com reports Ian Kinsler was not willing to waive his no-trade clause in order to come to the New York Mets.

The Mets were one of 10 teams on Kinsler’s no-trade list. Despite that, the Mets did have discussions with the Tigers to bring the former gold glove winner to Queens. It is not known how far the teams got in those discussions, but the rumors do indicate the Mets seemed very interested in adding Kinsler.

Beck’s report does seem to show that in the event the Mets and Tigers did agree to terms, the deal still would not have been consummated.

Coincidentally, Kinsler did approve a trade to the Angels despite their being on his no-trade list.

Perhaps, Kinsler was willing to go to the Angels because he will be joining a team that includes Mike Trout and now Shohei Ohtani.  Indeed, earlier reports indicated Kinsler wanted the contract extension he had signed with the Rangers to be front loaded so he could play for a contender towards the end of his career.
