The Oakalnd Athletics announced they have acquired outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the St. Louis Cardinals for infield prospects Yairo Munoz (No. 13 by MLB Pipeline and Max Schrock (No. 17).

This news comes on the heels of the Cardinals making a major acquisition by obtaining Marcell Ozuna in a trade with the Miami Marlins.

As noted on MLB Radio yesterday, the Cardinals organization has been looking for an opportunity to send Piscotty to the West Coast, particularly the Bay Area.

Last year, Piscotty missed games spending time with his family after his mother was diagnosed with ALS. This became easier for the Cardinals organization since they were able to obtain Ozuna. Coincidentally this would also address a need for the Athletics who have been looking for a cost controlled right-handed hitting outfielder this offseason.

Piscotty, 26, hit .235/.342/.367 with 16 doubles, a triple, nine homers, and 39 RBI in 107 games.  The outfielder has five years $29.8 million left on his contract with a $15 million team option for 2023.
