alejandro de aza

Alejandro De Aza originally signed with the New York Mets with the thought that he would be playing in a platoon with Juan Lagares. The Mets though had Yoenis Cespdes fall into their laps, relegating De Aza to be the fifth outfielder with playing time being scarce.

With all of the recent injuries and struggles of his offense, manager Terry Collins has stated that he will begin to give De Aza more opportunities. He started last night in place of Curtis Granderson, going 0-for-3 with a walk.

In a small sample size of just 63 plate appearances, De Aza has hit to a .210/.269/.306 slash line. He has hit one homer with three RBI while playing in 38 games. Over his career, De Aza has shown his ability to hit as he holds a career slash of .266/.329/.402.

The thought is that getting him more consecutive opportunities can awaken a proven bat for an offense that desperately needs numerous players to breakout. This is a good opportunity for De Aza to showcase what he can do at the plate and in the field.
