The Mets (32-26) defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates (32-27) tonight at PNC Park by a score of 6-5, avoiding the sweep

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard toed the rubber for the Mets this evening, and the young righty definitely didn’t have his best stuff, yielding three runs on seven hits over six innings. Despite the laborious appearance, Syndergaard still struck out five batters and kept the Mets in the game.

Jim Henderson came in for the seventh with the game tied and served up a pair of runs to give the Bucco’s a late 5-3 to lead.

Thankfully, the Mets offense bailed Henderson out to knot up, and Addison Reed pitched a clean eighth to keep the game tied at five a piece.

Reed went back out for the ninth, and kept the Pirates at bay and in the process would become the pitcher of record, as the Mets took the lead in the tenth.

Jeurys Familia took the mound for the tenth, and despite giving this journalist a near panic attack, was able to luckily seal the win for the Mets.

Offense:

After the Pirates took an early 2-0 lead, Ty Kelly hit his first major league home run, a two-run shot to knot up the game in the fourth inning.

The Pirates re-took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Mets got that run right back on a sacrifice fly from Michael Conforto in the fifth.

In the eighth inning, with the Mets down 5-3, Michael Conforto hit a two-run blast to tie the game up yet again.

In the tenth inning after the Mets loaded the bases, Wilmer Flores pinch hit, and gave the Mets a 6-5 lead with a bloop single to center.

This lead would prove to be enough, as the Mets were able to salvage the final game of the series.
