Overview

Nick Morabito started 2024 at Low-A St. Lucie and after dominating for a month the speedster earned a promotion to Single-A Brooklyn, where he put up excellent numbers as well. He finished second in the South Atlantic League in batting average (.294) among qualified players, fourth in on-base percentage (.373), and second in stolen bases (48).

He set new Cyclones single-season records for stolen bases and hits with 110 (surpassing JT Schwartz) despite playing in only 94 games. The 21-year-old led all Mets minor leaguers in batting average, on-base percentage, stolen bases, and hits.

Coming out of high school, a scouting report posted in Baseball Savant said Morabito reminded some of Chad Curtis or a “smaller Clint Frazier-type physically.” He has a short compact swing and above-average bat speed.

“Morabito has plenty of speed to burn,” the scouting report stated, “earning plus-plus grades for his wheels … it’s also a big reason – along with below-average arm strength – why he moved from his high school position of shortstop to center field, and early reviews on his ability to cover a ton of ground have been promising.”

Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs wrote last May that Morabito is a, “speedy outfielder with an oppo-geared swing that I am (and have been) skeptical will play against upper-level pitching.”

2025 Outlook

I would expect Morabito to start the year at Double-A Binghamton, where he will get the chance to show if he can handle better pitching. He will also try to improve his ability to hit left-handed pitching (odd since he’s a right-handed hitter). He was 17-for-77 (.221) versus southpaws in 2024 while he hit .331 against right-handed pitching.
