Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com reports that the Mets have optioned Tim Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse and called up Corey Oswalt.

Peterson, 28, appeared in four games for the Mets in which he allowed two runs, six walks, and four hits. He surprisingly made the team after being optioned to minors camp. The Mets let Rule 5 Draft pick Kyle Dowdy go to the Texas Rangers via waivers.

Oswalt, 25, made one start for Syracuse thus far and allowed three runs, four hits, and one walk while striking out five batters in 5 1/3 innings.

In 2018, the right-hander appeared in 17 games (12 starts) for the Mets last season in which he had a 3-3 record, 5.85 ERA, 5.70 FIP, 1.376 WHIP, and averaged 6.3 SO/9.

The team likely made this move out of the need for another arm as the team has used Peterson, Seth Lugo, Luis Avilan, and Robert Gsellman for more than one inning in the last two games.  Oswalt also potentially could provide much-needed innings for the team given the fact that he is a starter by trade.

Oswalt, Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia, and Justin Wilson potentially are the only four pitchers that did not pitch yesterday.
