The Mets will look to Rafael Montero who had a solid start his last time out. On the season he is 1-4 over 16 games (three starts) with a 5.63 ERA, 3.83 FIP and 1.983 WHIP in 32.0 innings.

In his last start he allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings holding the Giants to five hits and two walks, his best start by that measure, or any measure, this year.

He has 1/3 innings against the Phillies on record this year where he allowed four runs on four hits.

The Phillies have the following numbers against him:

  • Altherr 1-for-1

The Mets bats will close out the series against rookie Nick Pivetta.

Pivetta is 1-4 over nine games and 45.0 innings this season with a 5.40 ERA, 4.94 FIP, 1.667 WHIP.

June has been his most complete month of work, making five consecutive major league starts. One of those starts was brilliant as he held the Red Sox scoreless over seven innings. Everything else, not as much.

He is coming off of his worst start of the season where he allowed six runs over 2 2/3 innings to the Diamondbacks. He has never faced the Mets or any player on the Mets roster in a major league game.

NOTES:

The Mets have hit 34 homers in their last 19 games. Overall, the Mets have 121 home runs, tied for the second-most in the NL and tied for the sixth-most in the majors.

Rafael Montero has allowed two runs in his last 12.1 innings (1.46 ERA). The right-hander earned his second major league win in his last start, June 25 at San Francisco. His other win came on September 10, 2014.

Asdrubal Cabrera delivered a two-run go-ahead home run in the seventh inning yesterday. Five of eight homers this year have either tied the game or given the a Mets a lead. Cabrera has a .459 on-base percentage and a .394 (13-for-33) batting average with three doubles, two homers, four RBI and seven runs scored since returning from the Disabled List on June 23.

Over his last 16 games, T.J. Rivera is batting .345 (19-for-55) with three doubles, two homers, six runs scored and seven RBI.

Yoenis Cespedes is hitting .304 (21-for-69) with four doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 19 games since returning from the DL on June 10. Céspedes has 12 homers and 29 RBI in 32 career games vs. the Phillies.

Jay Bruce is tied for fourth in the NL and tied for 11th in the majors with 20 homers. He has 55 RBI, tied for 12th in the NL. Bruce became the 12th player in team history to hit 20 or more home runs prior to the All-Star break (it’s now happened 17 times). Yoenis Céspedes did it last year with 21 first-half homers. Bruce hit eight home runs, had 19 RBI and batted .301 (31-for-103) in June.
