Phillies Sign Veteran Reliever David Robertson

Right-handed reliever David Robertson has agree to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. The deal is for two-years. $23 million guaranteed according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Feinsand reports that the deal also includes a $12 million club option for the 2021 season with a $2 million buyout. Robertson has already passed his physical.

Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports was the first to report that a deal was close.

Robertson, 33, pitched in 69 games and registered a 3.23 ERA,1.033 WHIP and 11.8 K/9 out of the Yankees bullpen last season. In 69.2 innings last year, he had a whopping 91 strikeouts and allowed only 46 hits.

The former closer joins Seranthony Dominguez, Hector Neris, Tommy Hunter, Pat Neshek and Juan Nicasio in the Phillies bullpen.

The Mets showed interest in signing Robertson before they brought back former closer Jeurys Familia.
