Padres Trying To Arrange Meeting With Machado
Yesterday, it was reported that the team was interested in potentially signing the infielder to a long-term deal with his market not developing quite the way a 26-year-old infielder of his caliber would expect it to.
Other teams that are known to have or had interest in Machado are the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and the Philadelphia Phillies. The latter two teams are both also pursuing Bryce Harper.
Realmuto Market Coming Into Focus
Those clubs are the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, and the Tampa Bay Rays.
However, the Marlins have decided that they will not grant other teams the ability to negotiate an extension with Realmuto as part of the deal. That could hinder negotiations with the Padres who reportedly wanted a negotiation window as part of any deal.
White Sox Will Be Upset if They Don’t Acquire Machado or Harper
Chicago White Sox GM Rick Hahn spoke at SoxFest this past week and intimated genuine disappointment about the idea of not signing one of Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.
“Again, I’m not trying to hide the ball here. I will be personally disappointed. I will feel that on myself if we fail to convert. But if for whatever reason we do, we’re going to be right back at it again the next time this opportunity arises.”
At the very least, White Sox fans should be happy to hear that their GM wants to be aggressive. Their pursuit of Machado has been the more well-publicized one given the fact that the club traded for Yonder Alonso (Machado’s brother-in-law) and signed Jon Jay who is one of Machado’s good friends.
