Both Gsellman and Lugo have starting experience as recently as the 2017 season, with Lugo even starting a few games in 2018. It had been reported that the latter would be brought to camp as a starter and go from there, but that might not be the case anymore as evidenced by this.
Gsellman, 25, appeared in 68 games (80 innings) for the team last season in which he had a 4.28 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 3.95 FIP, and 70 strikeouts while recording 13 saves.
Lugo, 29, appeared in 54 games (101 1/3 innings of work, five starts) in which he recorded a 2.66 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 3.17 FIP, and 103 strikeouts. He had a 3-4 record and recorded three saves as well.
