The New York Mets offense was quiet on Wednesday night until Brandon Nimmo came off the bench in the bottom of the 10th and delivered a three-run walk-off homer to lift the Mets to a 3-0 win.
“Now I know how Flo feels all the time,” Nimmo said. “I was waiting for him to pass on some words of encouragement or wisdom on how he does it all the time, but I figured I watched him so many times before maybe I could try and be like him.”
Pinch hitting is something Nimmo is very familiar with from his two previous two big league seasons and it’s another thing the outfielder excels at. He is now 13-for-39 with eight walks in 49 pinch hitting plate appearances, good for a .957 in that difficult spot. It was the first pinch hit and walk-off homer for Nimmo.
The 25-year-old Nimmo is now hitting .255/.382/.512 on the season with 11 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 29 RBI in 293 plate appearances.
