Vargas Or Lugo to Pitch Tuesday Instead of Syndergaard

Mike Puma of the New York Post is reporting that Noah Syndergaard is likely not going to take his next turn in the Mets rotation on Tuesday against the Orioles.

The Mets don’t believe he will be ready in time and if he pitches on Wednesday then he would miss the Subway Series. Meaning that in all likelihood, the next time Syndergaard starts will be next weekend against the Yankees.

Jason Vargas or Seth Lugo will instead start on Tuesday at Citi Field. Vargas is coming off five scoreless innings on Wednesday night and Lugo made his first start of the season on Thursday with four scoreless innings.

Syndergaard was placed on the 10-disabled list with a strained ligament in his right index finger on May 29, retroactive to his last start on May 26. He is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 64.2 innings pitched this season, striking out 76 while walking 13.
