The New York Mets (54-70) were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks (69-57) by a score of 7-4 at Citi Field Tuesday evening.
Tommy Milone took the hill for the Mets tonight and was completely ineffective. Milone went 4.2 innings allowing six runs (five earned) while walking one and striking out five.
Kevin McGowan made his Major League debut for the Mets with two outs in the fifth. He then came back out and pitched the sixth inning, allowing one run and striking out one.
Hansel Robles was able to pitch three scoreless innings in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings.
Patrick Corbin had it all working tonight and shut the Mets offense down for the most part over eight innings.
Amed Rosario hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning to score the only run against Corbin.
The Mets did try to make a late rally in the bottom of the ninth. With two runners on and nobody out, Dominic Smith laced a ground rule double over the wall to score a late run. Three batters later Amed Rosario hit a triple to left field to make the score 7-4, but Fernando Rodney came in and shut the door.
Michael Conforto was scratched from tonight’s lineup with a sore wrist.
David Wright went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first rehab game for the St. Lucie Mets.
Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning in a rehab game in Brooklyn.
The Mets will play their third game of a four-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field tomorrow evening. The game has a start time of 7:10 PM. Chris Flexen (2-2, 6.55 ERA) will look to get the Mets a win against Zack Godley (5-6, 3.13 ERA).
