Kelly Johnson Interested In Returning to Mets

According to ESPN‘s Adam Rubin, Kelly Johnson is amenable to re-signing with the Mets this offseason.

Johnson first became a Met in a 2015 July trade that brought him and Juan Uribe from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for minor league pitchers John Gant and Robert Whalen.

Last offseason, the Mets made the decision to go forward with Eric Campbell on the bench. Johnson signed a one year, $2 million deal with the Braves.

After injuries to Lucas Duda and David Wright, and with Campbell proving he could not handle playing everyday, the Mets re-acquired Johnson in exchange for minor league reliever Akeel Morris this June.

In parts of two seasons with the Mets, Johnson has appeared in 131 games playing every position except catcher and center field. Johnson has been a .260/.319/.441 hitter with 14 doubles, 14 homers, and 37 RBI.

At this time, it is unknown what the Mets interest in Johnson will be. Currently, the internal bench options are Wilmer FloresJose Reyes, T.J. Rivera, and Matt Reynolds
