Mets Take Sole Possession Of Second Wild Card

Sign man

After getting pounded by the Milwaukee Brewers 12-5 on Thursday night, the St. Louis Cardinals fell behind the New York Mets in the wild card standings, giving the Amazins sole possession of the second wild card spot.

The Mets had the night off, but now find themselves just one-half game behind the San Francisco Giants for the top wild card spot which would give them home-field advantage in a one-game playoff.

Domingo Santana and Orlando Arcia hit back-to-back homers for the Brewers while Hernan Perez had four hits and three RBI as the Brew Crew won their season-high fifth straight game on the road.

Jaime Garcia (10-12) started for the Red Birds and lost his fourth straight decision, allowing five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

While the Mets have picked a great time to get hot, the Giants, Cards, Pirates and Marlins are dropping like flies and look absolutely impotent compared to the revitalized New York Mets.

The Mets now have a 69.4 percent chance of making the playoffs according to FanGraphs.

Just 2.5 weeks ago, the Mets were 5.5 games out of the second wild card spot and were pronounced dead by all the experts.

Look at them now.

We have won five series in a row and are riding a five game winning streak as we pull into Atlanta for a three game set with the last place Braves who are 32 games under .500.
