Here’s How Bob Murphy Would Have Called It

So much for all that talk about Citi Field being the place where would-be homeruns go to die… Last night, baseballs were flying out of Citi Field like nobody’s business as the Phillies and Mets combined to hit seven homeruns to set a new single game record and smashing the previous high of five at Citi Field. And while all the homeruns were no doubters, none was bigger and badder than that of Ryan Church whose blast [...]

Santana Was Feisty Last Night, And I Loved It!

Johan Santana was absolutely brilliant last night… no not on the mound, but at the plate. His RBI double in the sixth inning proved to be the difference maker as the Mets topped the Phillies 6-5. On the mound it was a totally  different story as Santana served up four homers, but on this damp Tuesday night in Citi Field before a packed house, the Mets bats had Santana’s back. Regarding his butcher-boy double, Santana had [...]

ESPN – Has Jose Reyes Reached his potential?

In a recent column on ESPN.com from Buster Olney talks about our injured SS – Jose Reyes: Mets must face possibility that Reyes has peaked Some excerpts from the column: There are talent evaluators with other teams who have their doubts. They see a diminishment of range, for whatever reason, and some signs of erosion in his defensive play. They point out that even at its highest, Reyes’ on-base percentage still falls in the range [...]

What Are The Mets Planning In Regard To Daniel Murphy and Fernando Martinez?

The Mets have announced their lineup for tonight’s game against the Phillies and it’s the same lineup that won the game for us last night.  I’m not concerned about that, they won the game but there are two players who will be sitting on the bench tonight that do concern me: Daniel Murphy and Fernando Martinez who did not play last night either.  I understand that both guys are lefties and thePhillies decided to put [...]

Is Too Much Being Made Of The Lack Of Home-Runs?

The last couple of weeks fans and writers have been talking about the lack of power the Mets have displayed so far this season.  The Mets this year have hit only 34 home-runs.  Obviously the absence of Carlos Delgado has affected the number of home-runs the Mets will hit this season.  Jose Reyes, who also has a lot of pop in his bat is out until the All-Star break.  David Wright has so far only [...]

NL East Report

Atlanta Braves: (1-2; -6) The Braves lost their weekend series to the Milwaukee Brewers, including Tommy Hanson getting roughed up in his 1st career start. They return home to begin a 4 game set. Nate McLouth will get to meet his teammates again, as the Pirates come to Turner Field. The Braves have the 7th pick in Tuesday’s draft, and may likely take a pitcher. You can never have too many of those. Florida Marlins: [...]

Don’t Blame Citi Field For Mets Power Outage!

Everyone is blaming Citi Field for the Mets power outage this season, but is that really the case? While researching for another post this morning, I took a look at some Mets team stats and came across some information that some of you may find surprising. I learned that the Mets have hit more homeruns and have a higher homerun per game percentage at Citi Field than they have on the road. In 26 games [...]

Fantasy Focus: Omar’s Gamble – Oliver Perez

I thought we’d change gears here in our fantasy column and talk about the much maligned – and soon to be discussed in depth again (when he eventually returns from his mysterious ‘injury’) – Oliver Perez. In February of 2009 after Derek Lowe opted for the Braves four year offer – Minaya came to terms with Perez, a free agent, on a $36 million dollar 3 year contract. At the time it was a bit [...]

John Maine: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Ask any Mets fan what he or she thinks of John Maine and you will most likely get a similar response. “He’s not bad.” “He’s okay.” “He has potential.” “He’s a good # 3.” Many years ago Tom Petty wrote a song entitled, ‘The Waiting (Is the Hardest Part.)’ After 80+ starts, we are still waiting for a clear cut impression of John Maine. Some pitchers burst onto the scene and immediately have an impact, [...]

Will Mets Be Power-less Against Phillies, Yanks?

In what should be a very telling week for the Mets, they face off against their two fiercest rivalries; the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees. The Yankees have knocked out 88 homeruns which is ranked number two in all of baseball second only to the Texas Rangers who have one more at 89. The Phillies are ranked third in the majors with 78 which leads the National League. The Mets… well they rank 28th with [...]
