The Mets may have just lost Gary Sheffield to the disabled list after he pulled up lame trying to chase down a Yunel Escobar double. Sheffield caught up with the ball, flipped it to Angel Pagan, and grabbed his right leg in pain. After a long injury delay, he was escorted off the field by the trainer and replaced by Jeremy Reed. The Mets will most likely be without Sheffield for a significant amount of […]
Last night, while watching the Mets go down to the Braves 5-3, Gary Cohen repeated the score as the Mets headed into the ninth inning. Out of the blue, Keith Hernandez wondered out loud when was the last time the Mets hit a three run homer. Neither he or Gary could remember when, and nor could I. It may have occurred in June, but that wasn’t the point they were making. Back in 2006, when the Mets […]
Okay so it’s not really the conference call from hell, but lately doesn’t it seem like Omar’s become the harbinger of death whenever he addresses the media? Today he had another one of those conference calls where he throws an unexpected curveball at us, or was it a spitter? There are many versions out there about what was said, but I think I’ll go with Newsday’s David Lennon’s take on it because he does an […]
Mets First Half MVP Griffin – Gary Sheffield, most homers and has been a huge part of team Russell Z – Johan Santana Satish – David Wright – I was reluctant to choose Wright because it seemed as if he didn’t do much this year, but he does deserve some credit for his new-found ability as a leadoff hitter. (His OBP is .410 and he has 20 steals!) Greg P – Gary Sheffield - Who would […]
What a punkass Heath Bell turned out to be. I’m not saying that because the National League lost to the junior circuit (Again!), but because I just read his post game comments and it showed me what a jerk he really is. For those of you who made the wise decision not to watch last night’s mid-summer classic, Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a triple to the Detroit Tigers’ Curtis Granderson who […]
So here we are on the verge of another mid-summer classic and my poor Mets find themselves 6 1/2 games out of first place with three teams to catch, and that’s the good news. The bad news is that we’re 6 1/2 games back in the wild card race with nine teams to catch. Geez… It’s so easy to point fingers and pick out all the things that went wrong in the first half, but why […]
Nobody could have predicted the first half that the Mets have just completed, after an off season that fueled such high expectations. Sure there were some questions going into the season, but every team has questions, building a team is not an exact science. The Mets’ biggest off-season priority was to revamp the bullpen, and that’s exactly what they did. Anyway, the injuries to so many key players was too tough to overcome for the […]
According to ESPN, Manny Acta has been fired was manager of the Washington Nationals on Sunday. The Nationals were blanked by the Houston Astros on Sunday 5-0 to go into the All-Star break with the worst record in the league at 26-61. “I thank the Nationals for giving me this opportunity and I’m sorry that things didn’t work out as expected. It’s normal for the manager to pay the price when the team is not […]
The Mets got some good news today on the eve of the All Star break regarding shortstop Jose Reyes and first baseman Carlos Delgado. According to several reports, both Delgado and Reyes worked out before Sunday’s game against the Reds and by all accounts everyone was all smiles. They both participated in agility drills on the field, but then Delgado got his first batting practice swings since undergoing right hip surgery in May. He is expected to […]
