Seeking out one of the best back and spinal specialists in the country, David Wright flew to California to meet with Dr. Michael Watkins and his physical therapy team after being diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis last weekend.

Sandy Alderson told reporters before the game on Friday, that Wright received an epidural injection in his back on Monday to help alleviate some of the pain caused by the stenosis.

Initially expected to spend a week there, the Mets say that Wright will be staying on the west coast for at least another week.

“We’ll have a better read at that point at his prognosis over the short term,” Alderson explained.

During the game’s broadcast on SNY, Gary Cohen said that manager Terry Collins asked Wright to come and join the team in San Diego when they play the Padres to give the team some inspiration.

Wright, who dealt with a back fracture in 2011, has been out since going on the disabled list with a hamstring issue on April 14.

Alderson said that there still is no timetable for Wright’s return.
