The Mets look to salvage a split of their four-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday as the two teams meet in a 12:10 PM matinee at Citi Field. Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.77) takes the hill for the Mets and will be opposed by right-hander Tim Hudson (8-8, 2.71) for the Giants.

Gee received his third consecutive loss in the Mets’ 6-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies on July 29 at Citi Field where he tossed 6.2 innings, allowing five runs, all earned, including two home runs. Gee has allowed five home runs in his last three starts.

This is the third time in Mets franchise history a team has had two complete-game two-hitters or better against them in the same series. The Dodgers’ Sandy Koufax was involved both other times. He tossed a two-hitter on May 19, 1963 before Don Drysdale also two-hit the Mets on May 22. The second time was in 1965, when Koufax threw a one-hitter on June 20 and Claude Osteen had a two-hitter in a 1-0 loss the next day.

Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Lucas Duda – 1B
  5. Travis d’Arnaud – C
  6. Chris Young – LF
  7. Juan Lagares – CF
  8. Ruben Tejada – SS
  9. Dillon Gee – RHP

The Mets and Giants finish up their four game set today in Citi Field with an earlier noon game. For the Mets, the goal is to win the game and split the series with the Giants before hitting the road. Yesterday belonged to the Giants who dominated with pitching and hitting. Today Tim Hudson makes a start for Giants as he squares off against Dillon Gee.

Gee is 4-4 on the season with a 3.77 ERA over 12 starts and 76.1 innings of work. He has had a rough go of it since coming back from the DL, pitching in three games, 16.2 innings, allowing 15 ER (8.10 ERA) but on a positive side striking out 16 batters and walking only 5. Last year in one start against the Giants, Gee allowed 5 ER over 6.2 innings. The G-Men have the following numbers against the man named Gee:

  • Pence 2-16
  • Morse 2-10, 2B
  • Blanco 3-8, 2B
  • Sandoval 3-5, 2B, HR
  • Crawford 2-5
  • Belt 1-2, 2 BB
  • Posey 1-2

The Mets get a look at an old foe in Timmy Hudson today who is having an All-Star season with an 8-8 record, 21 starts, 139.1 innings logged and a 2.71 ERA. Since the All-Star break he has made three starts totaling 20.1 innings with a 1.77 ERA and 22 hits. Earlier this season against the Mets he allowed 9 hits and 3 ER over 5.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Hudson:

  • Wright 19-80, 2 2B, 3 HR
  • Duda 11-28, 2 2B, HR
  • Murphy 6-25, 3 2B
  • Rejada 8-23
  • Abreu 4-12, 2B
  • C Young 3-11
  • E Young 0-10

Lets Go Mets!
