Spring Training Recap: Mets 10, Cardinals 4

A split squad of the Mets pounded the St. Louis Cardinals 10-4 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. The Mets had 19 hits in the game and went 8-for-20 with RISP.

Highlights:

Jonathon Niese left the game after two innings with elbow discomfort and is heading to New York for an MRI. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one in only his second spring training start.

Daniel Murphy went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Matt Clark also had three hits and a double to go with two runs scored and an RBI.

Cory Vaughn blasted a two-run homer against Adam Wainwright and went 3-for-4 with four RBIs on the day.

Ruben Tejada committed his fourth error of the spring and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Buddy Carlyle replaced Niese and tossed 2.1 innings and allowed a run on two hits and a walk, the run scoring after Kyle Farnsworth entered and surrendered an RBI single to Jhonny PeraltaFarnsworth allowed two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings and he’s pretty much done.

Vic Black continues to have big issues with command and isn’t fooling anyone at the plate. A spectacular double-play kept him from another disastrous inning. Still he allowed three hits and a walk while surrendering one run in the eighth.

Up Next: 

The Mets take on the Miami Marlins on Monday at 1:05 PM in Jupiter, with John Lannan opposing Henderson Alvarez. The game will be broadcast on WOR 710 AM.
