A split squad of the Mets pounded the St. Louis Cardinals 10-4 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. The Mets had 19 hits in the game and went 8-for-20 with RISP.
Jonathon Niese left the game after two innings with elbow discomfort and is heading to New York for an MRI. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one in only his second spring training start.
Ruben Tejada committed his fourth error of the spring and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
Buddy Carlyle replaced Niese and tossed 2.1 innings and allowed a run on two hits and a walk, the run scoring after Kyle Farnsworth entered and surrendered an RBI single to Jhonny Peralta. Farnsworth allowed two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings and he’s pretty much done.
Vic Black continues to have big issues with command and isn’t fooling anyone at the plate. A spectacular double-play kept him from another disastrous inning. Still he allowed three hits and a walk while surrendering one run in the eighth.
