Valdespin Tells Mets To Go Tweet Themselves

Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin is tweeting photos of himself on his twitter account. This particular pic of him sporting a Miami Marlins cap is drawing harsh criticism from the Mets fan base this morning.

Valdespin, who was recently suspended for insubordination while playing Winter Ball, has become a magnet for controversy.

Despite his talent, the Mets may have to weigh whether or not he is worth the trouble he seems to create for himself on a much too regular basis.

His Mets rap sheet continues to grow longer and longer.

  • Lmao, this is awesome!!!!

  • Non-story. He’s a middling prospect with a ceiling that appears to be Jose Uribe.

    • Why not Brad Eamus ?

      • Uh… because I think he’s better than Emaus? LOL.

    • Damaja, don’t disrespect valdespin nor uribe with that POS eamus…

      • I find it weird when folks compare player to player…its almost always of the same race…

and thats almost in every sport…

how many times have we heard the next Larry Bird was coming…
how many times was that player not a white guy…

        just an observation

        • Larry Bird played baseball?

        • Dude you should get out of Sports Blogging and get a job in Civil Rights because everything you post has a racist overtone.

Did some white guy fire you recently or something?

          • double standard, Double standard, Double Standard, DOUBLE Standard, DOUBLE STANDARD.

There, I took care of his reply. I am always here to help.

          • Yup cuz comparing Jordany Valdespin to Uribe has nothing to do with overtones..

same way every black CF is compared to Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr

When Lastings Milledge was being drafted…people compared him to Willie Mays…

Not so different than Christian Laettner being the next Larry Bird….

Not so different than Harold Miner being the next Michael Jordan…

Not so different than Jennry Mejia being the next Pedro…

we can go on and on with that…

when most people make comparisons…its almost always 2 people of the same race…

god forbid someone say that Niese could be the next Johan…it would really screw everyone’s head up

            • ep well I’m White, Didnt make any of those comparisons and NOT a BIGOT….

YOU are as bad as anyone you accuse of it….

Is this about the time you break out the old Minorities can’t be a Bigot just becausethey are Minorities ploy?

Your the one who has brought up anyone’s race here no one else has…

That makes it YOUR point not anyone elses

      • Actually I would have to agree Alex. Uribe was kind of a compliment to V-Spin. If his “ceiling” was Emaus I am not sure he would be playing professional baseball now would he?

    • He has a much higher ceiling than that(I’m assuming you mean Juan Uribe, right?)

Uribe is slow and overweight, while Valdespin is a potential dynamic player with a great combination of speed, power, and versatility.

To dismiss a talented young player just because of his first cup of coffee in the majors is ridiculous. And let’s not forget that he didn’t have consistent playing time up here, and a lot of his AB’s were when he was coming into the game cold as a pinch hitter. It’s difficult for a lot of players to succeed under those circumstances, let alone an inexperienced rookie.

      • Vinny, and even then how many big hits he had for us??? I think in one year of pinch hitting he had more CLUTCH hits than wright combined since 2008….

        • This is stupid!

      • Yes, thanks for correcting me and no I don’t think his ceiling is any higher.
        In 12 years of baseball:
.251 .296 .419 .715 from Uribe with 157 HR and played 2B, SS, 3B, and CF. Again, how am I not allowed to use that as a good comparison as to what to best expect from Jordany?

        • I didn’t say you weren’t allowed to use him as a comparison. I just disagreed with the comparison.

IMO, I think a better comparison is Ian Desmond:

          V-Spin at 24 yrs old: 191 AB’s, 8HR, 26RBI, .241 BA/.288/.424

          Desmond: at 24 yrs old: 525 AB’s, 10 HR, 65 RBI, .261/.309/.392

They also have similar skill stets. They both can play MI, they have some power and speed, and are aggressive hitters. Desmond is they type of player V-Spin can develop into.

          • Has Desmond reached his ceiling? Again, I said as his ceiling and that’s what I see.

        • You know else played alot of positions…

          Joe McEwing

Is Valdy the next Joe McEwing?

          • Holy sh!!t, you left Metsblog with your BS racism acts to here now? Lol, same old Just_Da_Damaja.

      • Vinny it’s difficult to accept coming in cold as an excuse since that seems to be the time he has the PAs that made people like him and want to play him in the first place….

I do however agree it’s a bit soon to just give up on him and if they could just screw his head on straight he could be a very good player in the MLB…

The problem is you can’t really teach someone to be great who thinks he is already there.

This picture seems to suggest that he thinks he already deserves to be a starter in the MLB and nothing could be further from the truth.

Thats a problem that is not easily going to be solved.

        • ‘This picture seems to suggest that he thinks he already deserves to be a starter in the MLB and nothing could be further from the truth.’

What was that Wagner said? ‘Know your place, rook!’

          • Boy talk about someone I disliked. I couldn’t stand Wagner.

      • Vinny he did best AS a pinch hitter. He was god awful when he started.
        .254 .288 .373 .661

        • He’s got talent and some pop to be sure, but he’s a hacker at the plate yet.

Ever notice he swings at just about everything? Last couple of games he played in, he actually layed off some really bad low pitches and took a couple of walks. I thought maybe he was starting to get it.

          • I just think he’s a dime a dozen and every team has one just like him.

        • When he first came up, he mostly came off the bench, and hit .133. It wasn’t until he got more consistent playing time that he started to heat up. After that hot stretch he had, pitchers started to adjust to him, and he ended the season in a slump.

          • Sorry Vinny but the stats just don’t back that up. He wasn’t very good as a starter. There was a .150 point difference in his SLG as a starter and as a sub. 5 of his 8 HR came as a pinch hitter.

            • Yes, they do.

When he was first called up, almost all of his AB’s were off the bench, and he hit .133. That’s from April 23rd 23 to June 9th; he only started three games during that time.

Now when he started to play more, he shot his average all the way up to .280-.290. From June 10th to July 25th he stared half of the games, and he hit .364 during that stretch.

After that, pitchers started to pitch him more carefully, and adjusted to him, and then he went cold. He hit .189 from that point on.

              • Sorry but he was awful as a starter and unless I am missing it, he never started more than 3 games in a row and more than 9 games in a month until August. He did have a good July so I guess that is what you are referring to.

              • Yes Vinny but all the hits that comprisethat .133 were game winning HRs….
Thats what made everyone like Valde not anything he did as a starter.

As a PH he hit .214 hit 5 Hrs and had 10 RBI

  • I’m waiting for the Valdy CD to come out. Maybe a collaboration with L-Milz.

  • Listen, the way i look at it is, he at least is being real, Unlike a certain lawyer pretending to be GM we have who’s lying through his teeth about building a competitive team in Queens!

    • Yes, you nailed it. Valdespin is only being real. All the real people I know behave this way too. SMH

      • Actually most likely he is just an immature kid desperately seeking attention. It has nothing to do with why the Mets shouldn’t think the kid is part of the future. His overall game says that enough.

        • Actually most likely he is just an immature kid desperately seeking attention”

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… Sounds like some of the DESERT members, figure you know a lot about this.. Looking forward to your reply.

          • Well considering you are a registered member, we can’t be perfect.

            • Am I?????????? Really??? Don’t remember that. Must’ve been when you desperately where looking for people to join about 4 years ago or so…

              • So then Alex are you a mole? Are you secretly a part of Desert Storm? lol

                • Hell noooooooooooooooo… You crazy… Dude was in dire (still is) need of people to go to his site so he started looking out some MB members of the past to see if they wanted to go there, Out of pity i did comment once like 5 years ago or so..

                  • I knew it… I couldn’t find it but admit it Alex. You are part of the 250,000+ comments and 1,000′s of registered users! I am sending you the t-shirt.

        • Nah, he’s just making sure that he’s included in the package to get Giancarlo.

          • Ah…great minds think alike. See my similar comment below.

  • I just laugh that the picture is drawing harsh criticism from the Mets fanbase… LOL. Like most of us care what V-Spin is doing as long as it’s not starting for the MLB Mets next year.

    • Let’s throw him in a package deal of all under control players and pitch it to Loria – see if we can pry Stanton away from him.

  • And how old is he?

    • He’s 23

      • Wonder what ‘insubordination’ he got suspended for.
And don’t know why he’d want to piss his employers off even further.

        • He argued with the manager and cursed him out when he was pinch hit for.

          • Oh boy…yeah, that’s likely to get him on the fast track to the MLs….SMH.

          • He argued with the manager and cursed him out when he was pinch hit for”

            DAVID WRIGHT?

            • Yeah it was the same thing

            • n Alex you know full well that was a MUCH different situation and Collins was just trying to keep him away from ANOTHER BEANING which the first one took Wright two years to recover from.

              Hardly the same thing!
Wright complained because he wanted to take the beaning…
Valdespin complained because he thinks he is gods gift to baseball and no one could hit better than him.

  • Cant stand this guy. I hope they throw him into any deal we do with Dickey. Let him be some other team’s problem.

  • LOL, this guy’s career was finished before it even got started. Grant him his wish and send him to the Marlins for a bag of donuts.

  • Must be a slow news day.

    • Agreed, why would we care what kind of hat Jordany V-Spin is wearing? Seriously some Mets fans are incredibly fickle. Like we don’t have more to worry about than a backup utility IF with some maturity issues.

      • I’m more concerned on why his arms are hot and his legs are cold.

  • Picture this: David Wright from Norfolk, Virginia seen walking around town wearing an Atlanta Braves cap. Or perhaps walking around NYC rocking a Yankees cap.

Now the people who think this photo is “awesome” tell me they’d feel the same way if it were Wright?

I can honestly say I do not recall ever a professional athlete wearing the cap of another team within the same sport. Wearing like an NBA cap etc… yes.

But I’ve never seen somebody actually have the gall to actually wear a cap of another team within the same sport. What an embarrassment

    • But I’ve never seen somebody actually have the gall to actually wear a cap of another team within the same sport. What an embarrassment”

REally? YOu’ve never seen Kobe wearing another basketball player’s jersey? Or iverson? Come on man, you’re like 20 something years old, how naive and outdated can you be besided being bias towards the you know what people….

      • For starters, I can honestly say I have not seen that because I don’t follow the NBA. Does that happen regularly? What jersey did they wear?

Okay if so, change it to baseball. Show me 1 professional baseball player who actually was seen rocking the cap of another team, specifically a division rival?

Just show me 1. I don’t know that this has happened. What I do know for a fact is if you saw a photo of David Wright rockin a Braves, Phils, Yanks hat – you’d be off your rocker.

      • Just show me 1. I don’t know that this has happened. What I do know for a fact is if you saw a photo of David Wright rockin a Braves, Phils, Yanks hat – you’d be off your rocker”

Ok, so is this why some of you are off your rocker?? Because is a latino ballplayer? You are amazing.. And yes, all you gotta do is look up in the internet how iverson and kobe and other players used to rock throwbacks from other team’s players. no big deal bro.. Relax man,I am sure if it was mike baxter you wouldn’t have your panties up in a bunch… Jeez!

        • I’m not off my rocker. I think it’s an embarrassment and it only proves what everybody says about his attitude. It once again has absolutely nothing to do with a players race, creed or religion. You once again tried to make it about that.

And TRS I’m not comparing the two in terms of talent. Opening Day 2013, was Valdespin projected to be on the Mets roster? I’d say so.

I picked Wright because the people who claim it’s awesome would say no such thing if it was Wright.

If this is Tim Byrdak, Ramon Ramirez, Joey Cora, Julio Franco, Matt Stairs, Jeff Keppinger I think the same thing “wow that’s ridiculous.”

He is a professional baseball player on a team in New York City. Expectations to ACT like a professional should be the same no matter what you do on the field or how good you are.

I stand by my statement – if somebody can show me an active ballplayer seen rockin’ the cap of another team I’d love to see it.

          • And further lets not for a second even act like this was an accident. He tweeted it. He wanted everybody to see him wearing a Marlins hat and you know it. This wasn’t him rockin a cap around town and somebody caught him.

This was him sending the message.

Answer me this: If reliever Cody Eppley of the NY Yankees tweeted a photo of himself rocking a Boston Red Sox cap – what do you think would happen? You think the fans would accept it? You think he’d be on the Yankees in 2013?

          • But Jessep my question remains, it’s a backup utility IF, why do we care?

            • Because he wa one guy wo if he had a modicum of success could be a good trade chip…
This incident isn’t helping in that regard nor was his getting suspended for insubordination for a league that pretty much is as loosy goosey as it gets!

              • Come on Metsie, do you really believe that he had any trade value other than as a filler?

                • It’s obvious he has some pop, Has some speed and can play the IF…

That has value don’t fool yourself on that score…

ALL players have value because GMs and Managers fool themselves into thinking they are smarter than thier peers and can fix anyone!

Sandy may be the worst offender in that in thinking he can get guys that failed elsewhere and if only they follow his philosophy will be good enough to make the team a winner…

So look for the next Sandy and you found a guy who thinks he can get something out of Valdespin.

                  • Well let me rephrase it. He has minimal value at best.

                    • As it stands? Yes!
But thats as much due to the attitude which is causing the bad PA as much as anything to do with his cieling or ability.

The HEAD is what determines what the body does!

Why does he so freely swing?
Because IN HIS HEAD he thinks he can hit ANYTHING because he is just that good!

Why did he throw a tantrum? Because NO PLAYER can replace the great Valdespin!

He has a head problem….Common Affliction, Pelfrey suffers from in the opposite extreme.

Head problems can be solved but this is one of those things a Veteran Leader is best suited to fix.
Find a Vet he admires to take him under his wing, Tell him when to shut up, show him how to put up.

Beltran comes to mind as a good guy to help him.
Other teams have players who could do it as well….
US? Not so sure of that….

As we all know in the constant prospect debates…Value is based on cielings for most people not actual performance.
I don’t believe he has a future or much value with us…
And incidents like this decrease his value with anyone else as well.

The GM should give him a call and tell him if you want to be in the MLB better shape up and fly right….
If not start getting your resume in order for that McDonalds job because your MLB dream will be over because no one in the MLB wants you due to your bad attitude.

                    • Well of course attitude affects value in many ways and it’s very possible that his attitude is behind his unwillingness to listen to a hitting coach’s advice or to swing at balls before they are even thrown. However, those things existed when he got here and I am saying that by now at age 25 (in a few days) his value was minimal anyway.

                    • So your sayin they should just cut him no loss there..

            • I “care” because it’s an embarrassment to the team either way. Whether it’s a mopup reliever, utility infielder or star player it’s still a pro baseball player who in all reality could be on the Opening Day roster tweeting a photo of himself doing nothing except wearing a division rivals cap.

There’s a reason you don’t see this done anywhere in the sport. There’s a reason you don’t see Eduardo Nunez rockin a Red Sox cap or some no name reliever of the Dodgers rockin a Giants cap. Because it’s unprofessional.

That’s why I care. He’s a borderline talent right now who has shown some signs that he’s worth a roster spot – but his attitude will always get in his way.

Let him go to Miami and play in front of 20 people for all I care.

              • Sorry Jessep, do you think that a non-Mets fan cares that some backup utility IF wore a Marlins hat? How is it that embarrassing? Embarrassing would be Wright or even Tejada doing it. V-Spin? Who cares?

                • So you’re telling me if Eduardo Nunez tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Red Sox cap that nobody would care?

I find that hard to believe.

                  • LOL, I know I wouldn’t. Why do I care about him?

                • Further you’re making it about just the cap

I’m making it about the action. What is the purpose of doing this? He tweeted it himself, not somebody else. He put on a Marlins cap and took a photo and decided to post it for the world to see.

If he’s a Met in Spring Training he’s gonna get hazed like crazy for this. Somehow I have a feeling he won’t be though

                  • And I am saying he is an immature backup middle IF that I really don’t care much about anyway.

                    • Let me ask you this:

Valdespin walks into spring camp for the Mets

You honestly think guys like Johan, Wright, Turner, Murphy and maybe Dickey are going to think this was no big deal?

                      I don’t.

                    • Of course they will rag him about it but you are under the impression that it would make a difference?

                    • Try it this way….
Your GM of the Mets, knowing all you know you just ignore it and do nothing?
                      Because you don’t really care?

I can actually see Sandy taking that stance but I sure wouldn’t agree with it.

                • Anyone who was under the impressin they could do something with him if they had him.

We need to stop basing out player value on what they are worth by themselves….
The best trades all include some player that by himself has no real value but when packaged with multiples gets you the player you want.

                  • Again, I don’t see him even having that much filler value either. I considering swing and miss lost position players like him a dime a dozen. Sorry.

              • I don’t see how this is an embarassment to he team….
Not like the Marlins are better than us thats for sure….
All it shows is this guy doesn’t know squat and made a fool of himself.

The only one he is hurting here is his own MLB career….
Question that needs to be asked do we continue to try and fix him or do we just tell him to go back home.

I think if Sandy called him and said you have a choice, Get your head screwed on or go back home to the DR and do whatever it was you would have done for a living if we didn’t take you out of there, and when faced with being an MLB player or peasant farmer the kid might realize just how stupid he has been.

                • All it shows is this guy doesn’t know squat and made a fool of himself.

Agreed, it really isn’t much of a story IMO and really doesn’t most likely change how the Mets FO views him. I am going to guess his suspension is a much bigger METS story.

        • Ok, so is this why some of you are off your rocker?? Because is a latino ballplayer? You are amazing.. And yes, all you gotta do is look up in the internet how iverson and kobe and other players used to rock throwbacks from other team’s players. no big deal bro.. Relax man,I am sure if it was mike baxter you wouldn’t have your panties up in a bunch… Jeez!

          Alex,

Just when I think you’re somewhat sane you spew this nonsense!!! I am a Latino Met Fan! I’m deeply offended! Screw him! He goes right to the front of the line when it comes to disliked Mets for me. I don’t really give a rat’s fat culo what Iverson and Kobe did or do I don’t like them either. I know Kobe is an all time great but he is a selfish surly jerk and I can’t stand the Lakers anyway. Iverson may be one of the biggest jerks of all time. I met him on a couple of occasions and he was an idiot. Can’t stand the Sixers or Nuggets either. Besides they are player who actually did something in their careers, this kid is just a clown looking for attention I don’t care what color his skin is.

          • Do you really think Jordany Valdespin is a Marlins fan…or someone who looks at MLB hats as more of a fashion statement than an actual sign of who he is a fan of?

            HONESTLY

    • Come on Jessep. This is Jordany Freaking V-Spin. Are we really comparing Wright and a middling backup IF prospect? I think Wright’s situation and what he can do in his free time and what hats he can wear are much different than a nobody.

      • Come on Jessep. This is Jordany Freaking V-Spin. Are we really comparing Wright and a middling backup IF prospect?”

Ohhhh, so it’s ok to compare wright to Hall of Famers like jeter, ripken etc???? Amazing!

        • LOL, lets see who do you think has more in common Wright with those guys or V-Spin and Wright?

        • Ok, let’s see…. HOF’s and wright got NOTHING in common as wright only trip to canton is on a tour bus, but valdespin and wright have something in common… they both showed off a manager

          • Or the fact that Wright is viewed as the face of a franchise and Jordany is viewed as a utility IF with some maturity issues?

          • SO it’s ok for the face of (A Losing) franchise throw a temper tantrum but it’s not ok for valdespin to do it? Isn’t DW supposed to be some sort of role model? Maybe valdespin learned that from #5

            • Right.

            • SMH…

      • Well nny yes it’ the sme but it is an example taken from a league where being a Prima Donna is a commodity…

I mean Labron held a damn press conference and made a TV show out of his contract decision, It’s a much different league where players thinking their crap don’t stink is the norm not the exception.

        • So Kevin Durant wearing a Bulls hat = being a prima-donna?

the new generation…looks at sports clothing as fashion statements, not signs of allegiance…

I remember when I used to wear a White Sox hat to work, to match my black/white NorthFace coat…

my much older boss and older co-workers all thought i was a white sox fan…and couldnt understand why i wore a mets shirt underneath my jacket..

the co-workers my age never questioned it…b/c they all understood…

these guys dont see themselves as any different than u when the game lights are turned off

If you found out David Wright wore some Yankee slippers given to him for free at a charity event…do you really think he is a Yankee fan?

    • After signing a 138 mil contract, I think it would be hilarious if David walked around with a braves hat

  • This is what happens when you dont think of yourself as an entertainer…but as a person playing baseball..

Most kids in DR dont give a hoot about what folks in America think.

this is why when Jose Reyes was interviewed in 2010 by Enrique Rojas in his house…he was showing off his Barry Bonds MVP plaque and said BB was his all-time favorite player..

No american player would ever say that….the negative news up here doesnt reach all around the world like that…can u imagine how awkward it would be if David Wright said Alex Rodriguez was his all-time favorite player…

Jordany doesnt see himself as a BUSINESS…he sees himself as a player.

Switching up this method of thinking would eliminate 99.999% of the issues he has.

That comes from not just him but his team ( lawyers, managers, mentors )…even the best ( Mike Tyson ) can fall if not surrounded by quality people

    • By 23 he should have more common sense than this.

Surrounding yourself with quality people is only going to take you so far. By 23, he’s got several years now in the Mets organization and should know better than to be arguing with his manager or pinging whoever it is he’s trying to ping with these pictures. You just can’t teach common sense.

      • wait, SRT, where were you when wright who’s 29 was showing off his manager? Yelling and screaming at him in front of everyone??? You are a piece of work you know that? All of the sudden you’re gonna blast valdespin when you did not say a single word about the great DW? DOUBLE STANDARD MUCH???

        • You seriously are not trying to compare the two…are you?

          SMH

        • I am not, the double standard is what’s killing me….

          • Sorry, I don’t see it that way.

Can’t remember Wright ever dissing his managers in the minors and getting suspended.
Can’t remember ever seeing a pic of Wright wearing a division rival baseball cap.

Wright argued with TC in the dugout that day b/c TC removed him trying to ‘protect’ him from retaliation – even if it was misplaced.

I don’t have the details on Spin’s insubordination, but I’m willing to bet he was PH for b/c the manager wanted to win the game and didn’t think Spin was the best match up for that particular at bat in the game. I highly doubt the manager was removing him trying to protect him.

Anyone with any common sense knows the two situations are probably not remotely similar.
I don’t think there’s any double standard at work here.

          • Right,Reyes did the same and he was immature, selfish, cancer… But wright does it and he’s fiery got it… Nope, no double standard here!

            • Just out of curiosity Alex. You’re referencing Wright demanding to be put into a baseball game when he knew he was going to get beaned right?

Why are you comparing that to anything Valdespin has ever done?

            • Dude, this aint 1990.. it’s 2012 where teams rarely retaliate etc.. where was wright when utley took out tejada? Remember who came to our defense? A guy with cripple knees was the guy who retaliate against utley on a slide to 2B. Spare me the drama, Kid

              • retaliation happens all the time it’s just that a knuckleballer throwing at you isn’t as scary as if they had Parnell do it!

The only thing that doesn’t happen anymore are the bench clearing brawls because players don’t want to get fined just to get in a punch that usually does more harm to them than the guy they hit.

      • “Surrounding yourself with quality people is only going to take you so far.”

Im not saying he is around the wrong people either…

Im just saying that handling the media perception is something not done in DR, because the media is completely different.

NYC – everyone and their mother wants to know why u didnt give DW a hi-5 when he came back from hitting a sac fly…that in NYC and ESPN world would turn into a month full of articles

Hell Lebron James wearing a YANKEE HAT was the source of controversy for months

Tom Brady wearing a YANKEE HAT and buying a place in NYC was the subject of controversy in Boston for months…

In other countries…people dont give a sh*t about things like that…

the reaction to Jordany just shows how tone-deaf he is to the absolute bat-sh*t craziness of American sports fans

You probably munched on some food that has GMO’s. while breathing in air polluted from ChemTrails, to go along with the filtered water you drank because the local water supply is dirty as hell..

but you are worried about what a backup MI for the mets is wearing on his free time

and he is the messed up one?

        get a clue yall

  • Once again……..If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then guess what….ITS A DUCK! The pattern has been established and just continues.

  • Clearly, it’s a sign of Valdespin saying he wants to take his talents to South Beach….

  • If it wasn’t for baseball, this guy would have been in any cartel right now. A trade would be nice.

    • ^^^ TRUTH

  • I can’t believe we’ve got over 46 comments on a thread showing a pic of Valdy with a Marlins cap.

Slow news day indeed…please, someone make a trade soon.

  • As much as I really like this kid, you’d think and wish that he’d be as productive on the field as much of a “magnet of controversy” he is off it. Why is this even an issue? The suspension as a result of his immaturity I can understand, but this?

    • He’s a backup utility IF, it’s really not an issue.

  • If Guillen was still there, trading him to the Marlins would be just the thing to straighten him out!

    • Which one, him or Gullien? LOL.

    • Guillen can’t even straighten HIMSELF out. You think he’ll really straighten out Valdespin? Give me a break.

      • You are assuming he didn’t mean that V-Spin would straighten him out…. :)

      • Well your making my point!
Two buttheads fighting…SOMEONE is going to lose and it usually isn’t the manager!

  • Giancarlo Stanton would rather wear any other team’s hat than the Marlins and this mope does this? Ignorance is bliss. Spin is in love with himself.

    • If Stanton really wants out (and he agent answered ‘no comment’ when asked if he wanted a trade), maybe HE should start tweeting pics of himself with all other 29 caps. Loria hates when any of his players call him or his organization out on twitter.

      • Ha! That would be totally out of control and way cool if Stanton that

        • if Stanton *did that.

    • Maybe you are on to something. Maybe those 2 were hanging out and Stanton took his Mets had and V-Spins head was cold?

  • I wasn’t going to comment on this earlier, but now that it’s on Rubin’s blog too I wanted to share what he posted:

Jordany Valdespin tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Marlins hat Friday, irking at least some fans of the Mets on Twitter.

The tweet did elicit a few funny responses, too.

From @djshort: “Most surprising thing about this is that someone is wearing a Marlins hat voluntarily”

From @negative40: “Apparently the one major leaguer who wants to wear a Marlin’s hat.”

Valdespin recently was suspended two days by his winter-ball team after failing to run out a ball, then reacting negatively to being pinch-hit for the following day.

  • It’s disrespectful plain and simple. It doesn’t have anything to do with he race or he position.

  • who cares

  • I think we knew Valdespin was a douche two years ago in the minor leagues. He’s also a no-talent, bench-riding douche. But really, no big deal. He’s an insignificant fleck on the Mets radar screen.

  • ARGH! He just became one of my least favorite Mets of all time. This is a direct shot at Met fans. Snot nose punk! He can go deuce in that ugly f ing hat. What a tool!

  • You gotta be f’ing kidding me! Spin, are you an idiot wearing a dump Marlins cap while playing for the Mets? C’mon Man!

  • If you guys need to throw out statistics to determine how good or bad Valdespin was in 2012 then you don’t see very well. Oh, yeah he had some good moments as a pinch hitter initially but that lasted a very short time. Major league pitchers may read scouting reports but will always start rookie hitters off with fastballs as a matter of principle. If the hitters can’t handle the heat why bother with breaking and off speed stuff……

Bottom line? Valdespin’s weakness as a hitter is clearly evident, He can’t hit the breaking stuff and he swings at 5too many pitches out of the zone. Bad base runner too!

Hope he is sent packing and being photographed wearing a Marlins cap may not be terribly insulting to the brass…but proves a point….HE IS NOT TOO SMART!
