MMO Exclusive Interview With Brandon Nimmo

In case you missed it on Friday, enjoy this exclusive interview with Brandon Nimmo…

Our Minor League Editor Pete Shapiro, hooked up with Kevin Kernan of the New York Post and together they had a great interview with Mets 2011 first rounder Brandon Nimmo on Wednesday at the Hudson Valley before the Cyclones game.

If you really want to know the caliber of person and player Brandon is, you need to listen to this heart-to-heart discussion as the three of them review Nimmo’s journey since joining the Mets and his play with the Brooklyn Cyclones this season. They discuss and talk about all the highs and the lows, the struggles and the accomplishments, and the myriad of things that goes through his mind as he tries hard to live up to his top billing.

It was interesting to hear him tell when it all started to click for him after getting off to slow start to his Cyclones season and batting .180 at the halfway point.

Brandon Nimmo gets his strength from his family who he leans on for support and his faith which guides him along his journey.

He spends a lot of time raving about the organization as far as his teammates as well as Michael Fulmer, Matt Harvey, Tyler Pill and Zack Wheeler. It’s a great listen, so I hope you tune in.

On behalf of myself and Pete, who is on the road again, we want to thank Brandon and Kevin for their time and courtesy.

Please enjoy…

  • Seems like a nice kid. I like how many of the Mets prospects follow each others progress and root for each other as they move through the system. What awaits him down the road remains to be seen but I wish the best for him.

    • MNJ — My thoughts too. Great kid.

  • So now we know where to find nimmo??

    • Alex, that was a terrible joke. Quit clownfishing around.

    • FP .. Got it.. Will do.

      • You’re like a fish out of water with these jokes. We’ll call that last one a fluke.

        • Something very fishy going on here….

      • Ummmm. ok. thanks???

        • I was trying to get a string of fish related jokes going. Holy mackerel! (last one i promise)

          • In the Jason Bay there was a fluke grand slam and double. To bad we on the ook with him.

  • That was truly great to listen to. I love how he opens up so easily to talk about God and family, which is hard for most teenagers to do. It says a lot about his character. Thank you Pete for sharing this with us. It was a nice glimpse into what I hope will be a permanent fixture in our outfield one day.

    • Thanks Lisa, you are right about Brandon, he is really a special person, and no matter how far he goes in his career, or what kind of player he ultimately becomes, he’s a winner and it is a definite asset to have a quality person like him in our organization. He is deserving of the unquestioned support and loyalty of the entire Mets fan-base. Let’s Go Mets!

      • Petey Pete — I loved your interview. It was special to me as I got to know Brandon and his values. He’s mature for his years. Again, a wonderful interview.

  • Now that’s what I call an interview, great job by both of you. It reminded me a lot of the types of interviews Kevin’s colleague Steve Serby would do or good old Ralph on Kiner’s Korner. I’ve heard a few Nimmo interviews before and they are all the same, what kind of a pitch was that homerun you hit, have you worked on your stance, blah, blah, blah. This is how interviews are done. Props to you guys. And best of luck to Brandon Nimmo, a fine young man.

  • Very cool. Best guess on when we’ll see him on the Mets? Is late 2014 about right or too optimistic?

    • Unless he tears it up in A and A+ next year and makes a smooth transition to AA I doubt we’ll see him before 2015. He hasn’t even played full season A ball yet so 2014 is probably out of the question. Unless he just flies through the system like Wright did. I still like Phil Evans the best out of the position players that came out of last years draft.

      • I like Phil Evans too, but I tell you I wouldn’t mind seeing Nimmo zip through the system with his bat. Cant wait to get a legit homegrown outfielder on this team.

    • I agree with Fonz, no way can he zip through four levels of the minors in under two years which rules out 2013, and 2014. He’s good, but that would be a little too much to ask. Realistically if all goes well, I’m guessing the middle of 2015 or thereabouts.

      • Hey Pete you need a nickname for these spots like Kiner’s Korner. How bout Petey’s Pit? lol

        • LOL – Fonzie I dont like the sound of Petey’s Pit or Pits. Maybe Petey’s Playhouse? No that’s not good either. :-)

          • How bout Petey’s Clubhouse?

            • Pete’ Upperdeck

              • Should have read Pete’s Upperdeck

            • Pete’s ‘Pen
