Mets To Call Up Six Players From Buffalo Tuesday
With the end of the Buffalo Bisons season on Monday, the Mets will be recalling four players, and purchasing two contracts from Triple-A. The players will be:
- Jordany Valdespin, UTIL
- Elvin Ramirez, RHP
- Jeurys Familia, RHP
- Jenrry Mejia, RHP
And the contracts that will be purchased are
- Fred Lewis, OF
- Justin Hampson, LHP
This is in addition to Colin McHugh being called up for today’s start and the prior two additions early this week of Mike Nickeas and Zach Lutz.
The roles of Familia and Mejia are undefined, but with the news that Harvey will more than likely be making two starts on the season, the possibility of Mejia or Familia getting a start or two seems likely. Fred Lewis gives the Mets another versatile OF with some speed and some pop. Justin Hampson gives the Mets a third lefty in the pen. Elvin Ramirez returns to try and carve out a bullpen role for 2013.

Do you know of any double A guys that might get the call ?
Terry’s already said no Double A players would be getting called up.
Wow that’s dumb
Really? Why who would you call up from double-A?
Oh yeah, what about Reese Havens, Pedro Zapata and Adrian Rosario? Huh? Huh? Huh?
No one in AA is remotely close to MLB ready. Havens is always hurt and hit poorly this year. Zapata is still as raw as it gets, and Rosario was in Hi-A not too long ago. Juan Lagares had a better shot than everyone of the people you named – and he’s not even close.
Ummm, that was sarcasm by me… Zapata was the real giveaway…
People are serious about that – I mentioned Havens for the sole purpose he is occupying a 40-man roster spot and is 26 years old. He is holding a spot that someone who may have a future with the Mets could use in the near future.
they seem to have plenty of guys now. No real need for any AA call ups too!
Lewis and Hampson are getting the “good work this year” token veteran call up.
And since they have more OFs now, maybe bay can get a jump on the off season, and take the rest of the year off?
for the pitchers, my WAG is Mejia gets a couple of starts, and they use Familia a couple times out of the pen.
“No real need for any AA call ups too!”
Agreed. The main guys I wanted to see have been called up at least in McHigh, Mejia and Familia. I especially am looking forward to seeing Familia hopefully get a start before the season is out.
McHugh* LoL
love Lewis getting the call up
Flores could’ve say on the bench as a reward for a great season…maybe take an abat or two at some point. He’s not ready, but I doubt he’d have been entirely overmatched. Just saying…it would have been nice for him and some fans who have heard about the lad for five yrs.
Yeah but by doing that you are starting his major league clock ticking towards arbitration and free-agency. If he plays all year at AAA next year, which he should, he won’t be ready to contribute in the bigs until 2014. But if they call him up for a cup of coffee now, they will only have him for one off-season before they have to go to arbitration with him, and just four years away from him being a free-agent. If he actually becomes really good, are you going to want to give him all that negotiating leverage, and an early chance to bolt for another club? Your idea is terrible.
Pete, excellent point. as i said, i got high hopes for this kid, and the farther away we keep him from this FO negotiations the better, since these FO likes to develop players to then later trade them or let them walk out for Draft picks..
” since these FO likes to develop players to then later trade them”
Really? Who have they done that to? I am unaware. In fact one of the players developed in Niese was signed to an extension.
Reyes was let go for draft pick no? then, they pick a guy, and since they won’t have a Comp draft pick this year they didn’t sign him.. Yeah.. Un huh..
So you agree that this FO developed Reyes? I thought so too. If it wasn’t for Hudgens’ guidance Jose would have never had the season he did and wouldn’t have gotten the contract he did. Unless of course he realized that OBP was where the money was and started playing for a contract.
Great point…
Yeah, Lewis is going to draw a crowd. Please, are you serious? Lewis? Where’s Satin ? Did he pick team Israel over the Mets? I think that would be the only reason he’d not get called. He hits.
