Wally Backman Suspended For Three Games
Amy Moritz of the Buffalo News is reporting that the Triple-A Bisons will be without manager Wally Backman tonight and for the next two games.
Backman earned a three-game suspension from the International League for his part in an arguement with Syracuse manager Tony Beasley in the middle of the fourth inning Friday night. Both were ejected from the game.
Afterwards, Backman accused Syracuse of stealing signs and location. Beasley was suspended for two games.
By the way, Zack Wheeler will make his Triple-A Debut on Sunday at Coca Cola Field.

I was too young to “appreciate” what Wally Backman meant to the ’86 Mets, and am too young to hold the long-burning love that older Mets fans seem to have for the man. That said, no one can ever complain the man doesn’t care. I know stealing signs is a part of the game; then again, the game has so many unspoken rules maybe Backman wasn’t right to call out the other team in this manner, or maybe the other team weren’t right to deny it and insult Wally’s intelligence.
I don’t know. What I do know is he’ll miss Zack Wheeler’s debut, so that sucks; but he stuck up for his guys, and that’s always good.
