Gary Carter In Grave Condition
Gary Carter’s fight with brain cancer has turned from brave to extremely grave.
On Thursday, Carter’s family received a phone call from the doctors at Duke University who have been treating the Mets Hall of Fame catcher informing them that the most recent MRI revealed “several new spots/tumors on his brain,” Carter’s daughter, Kimmy Bloomers, wrote on the family website.
In recent weeks, Carter’s condition was visibly worsening, and Carter began complaining of severe headaches, fatigue and balance problems that resulted in a fall on Christmas Day in which he tore his rotator cuff.
This past week, Carter spent almost all of his time at his home in Palm Beach Gardens and was too weak Monday to even attend his annual charity golf tournament a few miles away.
According to a family source, the doctors are now deciding whether to cease giving Carter any more treatment.
Terrible news…

:O Thats horrible! Terrible news indeed. My thoughts go out to him and his family. Cancer is a horrible disease.
:’(
I echo the sentiment. So sad to be reading about this….
Sad news. Thoughts and Prayers go out to him and his family.
cancer is all bad what he has is one of the worst. Just had expereince with this twice (in law and friend) and and it can you down quick.
Very sad for him and his family.
Today we all have heavy hearts upon hearing the news and our prayers go out to The Kid.
News like this always makes one realize how trivial everything else that we have been arguing about is. As always, in time we go back to losing such perspective.
1 of my favorite all time players. I even loved watching him with the Expos in the late 70′s early 80′s. Very sad. I hate cancer. It’s such a painful disease to watch people succumb to, especially for family members…God Bless he and his family. One of my all time favorite Mets before Reyes. I remember the trade announcement on a monday night football game. I started jumping up and down, ran to my brothers room, and we just started bouncing up and down yelling Carters’ a Met over and over…
Awful news. Prayers for the Kid and his family.
Hoping for another Miracle in Flushing, Kid….best wishes and prayers are with you and and your family !
Very sad indeed, my prayers go out to Gary and his family.
I am so sick and tired of cancer.
I’m deeply saddened over this news. Gary along with Jerry Grote have always been my favorite Mets. Stay strong, Gary.

Please Mets Retire his number 8 as fast as possible like the first home stand. Before it to late for him to be a part of it. It my still be pushing it but let him know before it to late. All Met Fans both young and old please pray for him and his family. Lets do # 8 First. Keith and Mike can have there number retired later in the season. I hope that is the way they would want it.
Mets Lets see Number 8 on the wall early in the season .
A wonderful suggestion that truly came from the heart. Many of us felt the same when we lost a staple of an older generation, Tug McGraw.
However, the gesture would come at the wrong time and be seen as an empty, last minute decision made due to the tragedy, reminding us there was not enough sentiment to retire his number all those years after he entered the Hall or when word of his illness came out last season.
It might be more appropriate, at least for the moment, to honor him with a special prayer or (sadly) a memorial tribute during opening day ceremonies, the wearing of arm bands when the sad day eventually comes , keeping the flag at half mast and having his name or number displayed in a similar fashion somewhere on the field or a wall for the remainder of the year.
And miracles sometimes do happen. Let’s hope so in this case, even if the chance seems so remote and unrealistic – don’t forget, this is the same guy who refused to be the last out in the 1986 world series.
My prayers go to Gary and his family in their time of need.
So, so sad. Gary has always been one of my all time favorite players. Prayers with him and his family. Wish the Mets would have already retired his number and honored him for his contributions to the Mets on and off the field during his career. This news makes it seem as though he may not be able to attend anything other than hospitals now. Shame on the Wilpons for not recognizing Carter before now.
Such a shame, thoughts are with him and his family
PLEASE, PLEASE get message to Gary’s family to get to “Cancer Center Treatments of America”, 1 center in Philadelphia, PA. They have 4 centers in US, operating for over 10 years and have a succes rate of 4 times the rate of standard treatments. They use traditional treatments but also use high dosages of nutrients to help the body fight the cancer, especaially because traditional treatments is poisonous to the body. http://www.cancercenters.com or google it.
Thanks you
